Why did you stop making videos? You are the best info out there for reuseable pads. :(

During the war and for some time after there was an extreme shortage of bandages in hospitals. My mother volunteered to wash bandages by hand so they could be re-used, sometimes several times over. They were stained with blood and sometimes puss. We can get hung up on “germs” without realising what they need to survive - food and moisture. Having said all that, I can sympathise with anyone not wanting to use someone elses personal products. Thanks for that info, very good video.

You must be proud of your mother that's an incredibly exhausting job. I think we are a bit over squeamish about germs but I wouldn't have anyone's second hand pads except from my daughter if some didn't suit her. But I know where they came from and how they were stored/washed and that she hasn't got any diseases and vice versa.

I bought my cloth pads from Amazon. I use Seventh Generation easy dose bottle of detergent and Lysol Laundry Sanitizer for sterilizing cloth pads and clothing/bedding. I use both products at the same time in my washing machine and later use a low heat dry for my pads. They come out clean, stain free and ready for the next time. Kindest Regards, Aiden Alamo. PS- I don't personally wait during my period to launder pads, as I would launder them daily for best care for myself.

For those interested, Vanish brands are not cruelty-free. Astonish Oxi Active Plus, Astonish Stain Bar, and Astonish Stain Remover are great alternatives.

Ah, I've missed Amy's lovely babbling. So good to know you're recovering well enough to be making videos again. I once lost my favourite pad, soiled hideously. I found it a few months later when I moved my bed away from the wall and found it had fallen down the side with some washing, thought it was a goner for sure, but it came out fine after a soak in Aldi brand oxi-cleaner. Ah, the wonders of hydrogen peroxide.

A quick FYI for anyone living near the US/Mexico border: Some hispanic grocers carry Vanish! I have bought it at Fry's Grocery(Kroger)! Now, it is still rare, but if your grocer offers a fair amount of hispanic/mexican foods, you might want to take a glance at their laundry isle!

To be fair, HepC protocol is great on normal laundry if the person has been undergoing chemotherapy. Chemotherapy is really bad for people who don’t need it, and if you’re pregnant:breastfeeding you should NOT do the laundry, etc because you could harm your baby. So knowing HepC protocol for laundry is actually very helpful. Thank you!

I use my kids old nappy bucket as a pre-soak for stained items. I use powdered hydrogen peroxide (Ecover Laundry Bleach). I also add some to the “stain wash” of my washing machine. which has a section for stain remover - bleach I think.

thanks for the great video Amy, you're so personable and sweet! I used 3 tablespoons sodium bicarbonate in the washing machine for blood-stained sheets and clothes with a regular washing cycle and it was all gone :-) (plus 4-5 tbsp Marseille soap flakes (I live in France) as a detergent--these 2 products cost virtually nothing in France, I'm not sure about the US though)

+psypocat We have very few French members in the groups I have joined because of the language barrier, so I am woefully unfamiliar with French laundry products, and I've often wished to see what would be available there. Oh, that I had learned more French.

psypocat Hey! Où trouves tu tes copeaux de savon de Marseille? Tu les mets avec le bicarbonate dans la machine directement, ou tu fais un pré trempage avant? Merci :)

I have a question. Im in the UK and use cloth pads. I don't bleed so don't need to worry about blood stains but use them as a daily liner for freshness and slight urine leakage. Is normal washing in the washing machine enough or can you get an ammonia build up like in cloth diapers? If so, how do you clean them?
@HelgaRocher72778 жыл бұрын
Love this video! I still have i think 2 maybe 3 pads that are missing poof gone vanished! Starting my first month of reusables. A Canadian here... what do my fellow Canadians reccomend for stain fighting and sanitizing? I know we don't have that Fels Napa bar. Not sure if we have Vanish either. I trialed one pad and wipes and Oxy does work well. Just wondering what stain fighting stick/bar we have available to us.

I've been considering getting some "D stash" or second hand pads but I've been apprehensive. With the chlorine bleach and hot water cleaning method, wouldn't that cause color fading?

Did you have a general anaesthetic? That can really mess up your memory function for a while. Might be why you're feeling ditzy and forgetful since the surgery!

I was wondering if you can recommend a pail or bucket (AND WHERE TO GET IT PLEASE) that I can soak and sanitize my cloth pads, perhaps something stainless steel and with a lid. P.S. I soak my pads with diluted hydrogen peroxide is that an effective method to sanitize pads ?
@amynix26328 жыл бұрын
It's absolutely a good sanitizing method. It won't necessarily get stains out on its own, however. If it works for you...fantastic. If not, add a stain treater of some kind. I recommend Fels-Naptha and the Vanish brand laundry bars. Honestly, I would recommend a small swing lid trash bin--get a brand new one, of course--and you could get one of those in any style you like from any department store.

Hi Amy:) what is the group you talked about in this video and your thinx video?
@amynix26328 жыл бұрын
+littleleslie13 It's the closed Facebook group. You can find it here: facebook.com/groups/623672741070527/ For some reason, I get a lot of people who say the link doesn't work for them. You can type "Amy Nix Cloth & Cups YT Group" in the search window on Facebook, and we will show up there. Just click to join, and an admin will approve you.

it is just not a good idea to use other peoples personal items. even if you do sanitize or whatever someone elses body fluids were transfered onto that cloth. CDC I do not trust. they tell you lots of things that are not good for you. its just gross. I love cloth pads but just my own.
