I was going to say the same thing. I can't jump the fence, but with a short step ladder, even wimpy me can get in. Instead of locking the gate, lock your shed, or wherever you keep your lawnmower and yard tools. We just opted to have a dog. Hmmmm, no it doesnt. Even with the cover in place the gate pin lifts the latch in order to close. So the latch is still liftable with the very same stick used in the beginning.

I would assume you have some common sense and experience under your belt. With that being said, the lock he had before that he opened with a stick was for honest people as well and was just as safe. Light tap with a tiny hammer from top down and this is toast and will pull cable and open at the same time! Either way, never heard anyone say it like my uncle did so cool for me to hear.

​@@travisc5658In a scenario like this your lock should ideally be only a little more difficult to open than it is to climb over your fence. Most thieves would not even bother with the lock if there's an easier way in. What you don't want to do is pay a lot of money for a good lock that you're going to have to repair or replace when somebody inevitably jams something in there trying to get in. The other thing to think about is how much something like this might slow you or emergency workers down if you ever have an emergency at home. You want to slow thieves down and discourage them but you don't want to do the same thing for fire fighters or ambulance workers. When you're talking about securing a back yard, this could apply to your neighbours too. You don't want firefighters to have to chop your whole fence down because they needed access to your yard. Not because you care about fences, but that time could be the difference between somebody living or dying.

After building my gates, I use the left over wood, to drill and chisel in a wood sliding latch that can be opened from both sides. Then I install a keyed a solid brass barrel lock that only prevents the wooden latch from coming back. I do this encase someone wants to sneak in or out my gates. You can leave it unlocked if you want. 12 years later, one is still working just fine.

Remove the gate and only enter from the house, add razor wire above fence as well. You might want to add brick behind the wooden fence and a concrete base that extends a foot at minimum for minimum maximum protection

Torch and a shim. These combination tumblers all have a visible "notch" inside where the correct number is placed on the wheel. Match all the tumblers to the same spot showing the notch, then turn all of them one number and pull, repeat, until it opens.

Man there's such an easy solution to this: pull on the top of the cover and scramble the numbers until you feel a pop. Or, honestly - just kick it off. Takes less than a minute either way and the former is quiet 😊
