How to set up the micron gauge

This one covers using the free standing micron gauge on the refrigeration system. I have owned 2 of that particular brand and model micron gauge along with a couple of other tools by the same manufacturer and I am fully disgusted with the quality and performance of said " tools". Other than that, Greyfurnaceman is the man ! Thanks for this video - a simple video explain how to pull vacuum and what to do in sequence. It seems all the vacuum video out there are techs trying to prove each other wrong with what pulls faster 1/4 or 1/2 or whatever hookup with or without Ts and what not.

Now did the vacuum hold? I know I should test my micron guage with this method , using brand new cylinder .

Can micron gauge handle positive pressure? Does it hurt the micron gauge to have positive pressure?

I have not had problems with pressure, but I remove it when pressure testing. Also, the digital gauge sets have a micron gauge built in. Hope this helps. GFM

I'm in another trade. I've been watching you HVAC guys everyday for over a year. Great stuff. Finally a vid on pulling a vac to 500 microns. So what is 500,700,4200 microns - relative to what and means what in the system. All I know about microns is what will pass through various mesh filters, etc. If I may here's an answer from another hvac forum for us that don't know www.tinyurl.com/pws29zv

steveg5576 A micron is 1/10,000 of an inch mercury. It is not important to know the definition, just what you need to get a reasonably complete vacuum to be sure there is no moisture or non condensable gasses in the system. Its amazing how damaging moisture or oxygen can be to a refrigeration system. GFM
