Excellent lesson, coach. The weight favoring the left side reminds me of Mike Weir’s stack and tilt technique back when he won the green jacket. There is tons of merit in this approach and definitely prevents the fire and fall back when trying to rip it with driver! I love Hideki’s patient pause at the top which promotes the fully coiled spring effect. I have worked the slight pause into my backswing and it has really helped me load and release significantly better!

I seem to comment a lot on you which I guess is good as that means I am watching an awful lot of your videos. I like Hideki and I like the fact his transition is much more rapid than previously. He had such a problem earlier in his career with early release of his hips and forced lag by holding his arms back and creating a long pause. His swing now is beautiful and functional. I like the videos and appreciate the learning. I have never tried to stack and tilt (I know this is the old fashioned term) but I like the idea of bracing against the lead side to allow you to feel the transition of weight from the inside of the lead foot to the inside of the trail ball of the foot. Gonna try this tomorrow. You have a good way of teaching, as a teacher myself, I greatly appreciate how you make things seem simple.

Very nice Andrew, thanks! But we are not even close to what Stack and Tilt do and do not mistake us for them even if at address it may look similar, dynamically it’s mega different!

Thanks Shawn. With your advice, and some lessons from a pro (who also follows your advice) I’ve increased my driver swing speed by 10mph and I’ve increased my iron distance approx 11-16 yards. Which for me means I get that angle going into greens. Thanks!

Great video. By bracing the weight forward would that be considered the same as moving the pressure forward without moving the mass ? I noticed yinz all maintained your tilts so I would think yes. I noticed something very different in Savys swing when compared to Hiedeki's, Mu's and your swing. It is not different in a bad way in fact many teaching professionals encourage this move and claim it actually adds power. I'm talking about letting the head swivel thru impact and Savy does this nicely. Maybe this is irrelevant but many would argue differently. I see many great players keep that head back and nailed down . Anika Sorenstam and many other greats let it swivel thru impact. So I am very curious as to your thoughts on this. Thank yinz
@golflessons3 жыл бұрын
Hi Mike! Nice observation; it relates to the kind of release that each individual has when they deliver their actions; because Savy’s grip and release are more like Zack Johnson’s the release pattern is similar as well; the bottom line is that the goal is to deliver an action that collects the ball from where it is and delivers it towards where you want it to go!

This video has everything i struggle with.. Trying to understand the feeling of being braced against the target /braced against lead side... any insights... When I try and block or feel my left leg braced i tend to sway on the rotational side than side ways.. but when I saw you and you are almost still at impact...? And yes I rush my downswing....

Hi Shawn. Still loving what you guys are doing. Can having too wide a stance affect your ability to rotate through? I feel like I’m staying on task, but still occasionally get stuck .. especially with driver.

I have a question for you Shawn, when you set up with your driver you put your Club head much farther back from the ball then Sav or My do. What reason is this and does it have to do with your shoulder alignment to the ball and tilt for hitting up on the ball?
@golflessons3 жыл бұрын
Will have to redo my original driver video from waaay back in 2007!! See “great driver tip shawn clement”

Hey Shawn great video and it has helped me a lot with my irons but not so much with my 5 wood and driver. When I set up like this it looks and feels like I have way too much forward shaft lean w driver and 5 wood and my ball flight is really low. Is this an optical illusion or am I just set up incorrectly?

@golflessons3 жыл бұрын

@Jeremy15923 жыл бұрын
Hey Shawn! I've been watching your stuff for a few months now and implementing these techniques. I've seen at least a 10 yard improvement on my irons and a lower, more piercing ball flight. Contact with the ball is much improved with my woods and the ball flight is more desirable as well. Is there an opportunity, or a video I'm missing, that you could talk a bit about how to reestablish these techniques in the middle of a round. I played yesterday and shot 35 - 41. Being middle-aged and career minded, I have a problem with my body physiology changing through the round (basically I continue to limber up through the round and become more flexible, which sometimes causes my swing to change). What can I do at the turn to refocus my body and continue to hit fairways and make solid approach shots?
@golflessons3 жыл бұрын
Perception for sure! 1-KNOW THAT YOU ARE NOT DEFECTIVE 2-FOCUS ON YOUR TASK NOT ON THE DISTRACTIONS OF HOW THE BODY FEELS. On our premium channel, see “task trumps everything”, “Top 3 tasks”, “throwing the club”, “the throwing series”, “arc-blur unstoppable momentum series” and “the hammer drill” to name a few. Get good at a task and you will find you can accomplish it with any body state you are in! 😀👍

So, question is, what percentage of weight is on the left and right foot?? (For a right handed person) Thanks
@golflessons3 жыл бұрын
60-40 in favour of lead side; top of backswing: 70-30 in favour of inside trail foot; impact: 70-30 in favour of lead side; finish: 80-20 in favour of inside the lead side.
@wrwhiteal3 жыл бұрын

Hideki has his club right behind the ball at address, and you have your club well back like Moe Norman. How do both of these approaches accomplish the same thing?
@golflessons3 жыл бұрын
It is about the brace against the lead side; which Moe did and also Jack Nicklaus; it is what allows him to stay with the shot mentally as well as physically.

Camera angles can fool you there; I prefer to say that the club face is dynamically closed in relation to the path of the club which yields a nice draw 1000% of the time.
