When resetting the router you must press and hold it for about 8 to 10 secs. When pressing correct button the LED light will change to flashing Yellow...when connecting nodes you can either do both wired and wireless.

@@asus_support I don't have any mesh system right now ... I'm researching because my router is showing signs of failure so I was researching these mesh systems. Never used one before and it appears these mesh systems use an Android app to set up and I don't like that. I want a mesh system that can be accessed like a normal router with a browser on a Windows PC. *Thus my question basically is can the ASUS ZenWiFi AiMesh System be accessed like a normal router on Windows PC using a browser?*

Sad to say, I purchased three Asus Zenwifi XT8's and it only worked for about a week. After that, the two nodes dropped off the network and I have been unable to re-connect them to the main router...even after several 'factory' resets. The closest I've come is after that after a factory reset, the app connects, takes me through the steps and after it says 'successfully connected' (or something like that) the node isn't connected. I've tried it with ethernet cables and wirelessly. Right now, they're doorstops...and not even good door stops. They're basically expensive crap. Also...I'm sick to death of reading comments like, "have you updated your firmware"? Yes, I like many other people here HAVE...and they still don't work.

@@asus_support I have 3 XT8s. I was able to link them together using the app. All three got updated firmware and the only customized setting I changed was backhaul to wired. After a week, both nodes stopped working. 98% of the time, the nodes are undiscoverable...both wirelessly or by ethernet cable. They can't be found. On the rare occasion they are (after reset) and I try to connect...when the process is completed and I hit "finish", the nodes disappear again and blink blue. They simply will NOT connect to the main router. I've tried both hard and soft resets (which are not explained well at all by ASUS). Maybe the firmware on both has been corrupted, but when I go through the process of putting them in recovery mode (assume that's the pink light), the downloaded firmware won't load and I get an error message in the Recovery software that reads, "not in recovery mode". It's beyond maddening...especially after paying more than €600 for doorstops.

@asus_support

Hi, Efren Bonavente. If the routers you mentioned support the Aimesh function, then it is possible to expand the AiMesh network. A mesh router can connect up to 9 nodes at the same time. In order to maintain a better AiMesh experience, it is recommended to use 1 mesh router with 2 nodes as much as possible.

The ZenWifi is very unstable esp when adding nodes. I have a pair of CT8 which broke down recently. Then I got a new pair of XD6 but it is exhibiting the same problem. The node simply keeps rebooting when it tries to join the mesh network. Horrible experience. I have spent hours with the support on the phone. He just kept asking me to retry and retry the same procedures over the over. There is nothing to troubleshoot except looking at the only visible LED light hopelessly. Nothing makes sense. I wish I can refund them. Is there any helpful help can I get here? Thanks.

Hi Tony Cheung, Have you updated to the latest firmware version 3.0.0.4.386.46859 and reset the system? If you have tried it with router setting page, please also try it with ASUS router app. Please keep the router and node within 3 meters when setup AiMesh.
@asiayeah
@asiayeah 2 жыл бұрын
@ASUS Support Yes, I am using the latest firmware. Today I have tried to factory reset both units and setup both units at the same time. It didn't work the first time, the node kept on rebooting and failed to join the mesh network. The 2nd time I tried, it worked. I decided not to touch them anymore. I contacted the local support. They first recommended me to connect the 2 units together with a cat5 cable. That didn't work at all, and the node was mis-interpreted as the main router. They also suggested me NOT to put the 2 units too close to each other but need to keep them between 1 to 3 feet apart. That might help, but it is all very confusing. IMHO, no one can ever tell me what was the problem when the node didn't join. All the suggestions were to retry and retry in slightly different ways. Also, the only visible feedback are the unit's LED light. The application always will say the connections are setup properly even though only the main router is working but the node never joins (although I bought a pair of nodes). The support also mentioned if adding a node didn't work, I should try to setup both units at the same time. That makes me worry if I can add additional nodes in the future at all. I'm afraid I can't recommend this product to anyone who doesn't enjoy troubleshooting and can"t afford to spend endless hours with the support. Also one might prepare to retry and retry. I hope I could refund mine.

@@asus_support What is especially troubling is the fact that when I search this issue on the Internet, it's pretty common. ASUS, doesn't address this issue other than to say things like "update firmware". But, when you can't connect the unit, how do you update the firmware? A few techie people have had various degrees of success in fixing their networks, but none of the solutions worked for me. I wish ASUS could give a straightforward answer to this given the fact that this is not unusual. Thanks.

Can you add additional nodes and what is the limit on the number of nodes if additional ones are supported and does the model of the additional nodes matter (I know I think they all need to be Asus nodes but I want to see if I can get a higher range node then have a smaller node placed near the end of the range of the bigger node just for a small boost to the edge of the property for example if you have a dual pack of high range nodes but they only cover lets say like 90% of the building but you want to get that 100% coverage but only need a smaller node to get there)
