I just added a third AX11000 and I guess the AImesh was setup but I do not remember doing it. I am getting speeds on my laptop and phone around 750 MB wirelessly in my furthest room and it works like a charm. I really expected this to be harder but Asus and their software is best in class. The added routers also allow me to ethernet into some of my Sonos speakers for better connection. The strong coverage allows me to keep all of my smart devices working.

Totally unreliable and wish I'd never bothered with this - I bought a second router and got it working in AiMesh after so much messing about and errors about it having been reset (even though in your guide here it says reset it), coming up variably over WiFi or ethernet, etc., running back up and downstairs to make sure I set it up within three meters of the main router. Then a couple of months later, it just stops working, I can't re-add it, I bring it downstairs and connect it to the main router directly and it finds it (sometimes over WiFi, sometimes ethernet) and just refuses to add it. Why can't it just find new nodes on the ethernet link and let you add them instead of taking them all the way back downstairs for a start? The only other thing I can't check is the firmware version on the second router, but it was working with AiMesh before, so why can't it now? Why can't the main router update the firmware of the secondary router if it's so necessary that they stay in sync? Why is this so soooo bad? There is no way the average home user is able to navigate all these ridiculous issues and get it set up.

Hi, according to your question, may I ask did you mean you cannot use the router to connect to other router? Have you set up media bridge mode? Media bridge mode provides multiple entertainment devices the fastest 802.11ac Wi-Fi connection simultaneously. Set up the first ASUS Router as router then configure the second ASUS Router as 802.11ac Media bridge, then you can simply connect PCs, Smart TV, game console, DVR, media player to Media bridge via Ethernet cable. Whether you connect your laptop to ASUS via Ethernet cable? May I ask what do you mean main router cannot update the firmware of the secondary router? Before you can check the firmware version of the second router, have you make any changes or update anything then the problem occur? One thing i found so confusing with this and have spent days trying to get it to detect my aimesh node but it doesn’t say how to disconnect the Ethernet cable because I’m confused if i need to connect the aimesh node to the aimesh router leave it blank or connect he aimesh node. IT WONT DETECT. I couldn’t even get to the last part of the video. The node is brand new. I don’t know why this is so difficult to set up

@@asus_support set RP-AX56 to default by resetting the device. The device restarted. Plugged PC to home router AC5300. Logged into RP-AX56 on its WiFi signal (RP-AX56). Put other IP address into browser 192.168.1.50. Logged into router using default. Change firmware to most current. Changed router operating mode to aimesh, went through the steps. It tells me log back into my home router(AC 5300) I start searching for any aimesh nodes. Aimesh RP-AX56 Node not detected. Rinse repeat 3 times still no change. Conversely,I try the ASUS extender app. This app makes the router an AP router not AIMESH. Then you have to go back and try to change it aimesh operation mode. But then still the RP- AX56 is never detected as an aimesh node. So the original question I was wondering is when the AX56 is set to default. What am I supposed to do leave the AX56 connected to the home AC5300 router or off? I have tried both still never got it working. Decided to try the ax1800 instead because I WANT aimed. Yes the RP-AX56 works as a repeater, media bridge, or in AP Mode but not that aimesh.

Hi mike moore, May I double confirm the firmware version of RP-AX56(node) is 3.0.0.4.386.42860 and the firmware version of RT-AC5300(main router) is 3.0.0.4.386.43576? When the reset process is completed, please allow the AiMesh node to stay powered on and in stand by, and then move your AiMesh node within 1-3 meters of the AiMesh main router. Please also reset the RT-AC5300(AiMesh main router) and followed the steps in the link below. www.asus.com/support/faq/1035087 If the RP-AX56(node) is still not detected, may I have the video about the AiMesh setup procedure?

@@asus_support AC5300 Firmware Upgraded to latest version posted here. RP-AX56 is upgraded to yes to that firmware version. See the problem is that if you keep resetting it yes you can do that but still what happens when it’s 1-3 meters close to the router. Reset RP-AX56 many times because once it doesn’t detect it the default setting it is useless so the RP-AX56 doesn’t have any use in its default mode. So I reset it many times to follow the instructions again. Making a video of this process is tedious because the process is tedious. For example. The reason it can take so long is because when the RP-AX56 is going to be reset every time it not detect. It would be easier to just have the RP-AX56 just plug into the router and it’s detected. When you plug this device into the AC5300 it just sees it as an AP router etc It doesn’t even see it as an ASUS Aimesh router. So it thinks it’s not an Aimesh node. But works as an AP/ Repeater router.

Hello, I have 3 routers, AX11000 as the main router and 2 RT-AX82 as AI nodes. They are distributed in a straight line through my house. On the top the main router, then one floor lower the first node and then on the ground floor the second node. Now is my question if the second node will connect the wifi with the main router which is pretty far away or is it smart enough to connect the Wi-Fi with the first node between these two?

@@asus_support didn't work.. Sigh..... I reset my node, my router is set to router/ai mesh. If we use ethernet what port do I plug the Ethernet cord on the node. I tried the lan port and the wan port. when I click add a node it never detects the node. I can connect to the node via 192.168.1.1 and it has the set up wizard. To be honest this video is worthless. its sad you just made it. SHOW EVERY STEP for the most reliable method. Its not complicated. I mean EVER STEP, when I turn thins on, what button I click on. Why is AI mesh such junk? my old google on hubs made a mesh through an app with the click of a button. I wanted more options so I bough 2 asus ai mesh routers. Waste of money.

After trying all kinds of cabling connections (nowhere detailed in the ASUS documentation), what finally worked for me was for the new mesh node to be detected it must be reset, near the mesh router (1 - 3 meters apart) and with only the power cable plugged in. Then, using a computer with an Ethernet cable connected to a LAN port on the mesh router, search for a new node. The mesh router found the new mesh node immediately, where with any other combination of wiring, searching timed out. My next challenge is to assign static IP addresses to all mesh nodes so that I can find them with WiFi stumbler programs in order to optimize WiFi connections through various walls and floors. I will then use Ethernet backhaul to reduce WiFi congestion.

I have an ASUS RT-AC3200 Tri-band Router. This router was very expensive to buy, and there were many other cheaper options at the time of purchase. However, I like the ASUS products, (I also owned an ASUS laptop) so decided to spend the extra $$$ on this router. I also purchased the ASUS RP-AX56 to extend my wifi further out to my back deck. (Summer time needs Music!) Once again, the RP-AX56 was much more expensive then my other choice the TP-Link AC1500, but I chose ASUS because I have an ASUS router!! The firmware on my router is up to date. How do I add the RP-AX56 as a new Aimesh node when my router doesn't have an Aimesh page??? It only has 'Wireless Router Mode', 'AP mode', and 'Media Bridge'. I originally tried setting up the RP-AX56 by plugging it in 1 meter from my router and using the WPS buttons on both devices but could never get them to connect. Did I buy the wrong router???? Is the ASUS RP-AX56 not compatible with the ASUS router??? I presently have the TP-Link Wifi Extender in my shopping cart on Amazon because their products work with ALL ROUTERS!! Hoping ASUS replies quickly with a solution....before I click "Proceed to Checkout".

At the time of my first post, I updated the firmware on my ASUS Router....Within the hour, that's when all the problems with ASUS started for me!! 😡 My router stopped working, and all the WiFi over my entire house was gone! (Cell, Lights, Nest, Google, Cameras, Door Locks etc) Everything GONE! I tried restarting the router, NOTHING. I tried resetting the router...NOTHING! It would not find ANY OF MY NETWORKS!!??? (just all of my neighbors networks!) I tried phoning ASUS. They no longer offer a toll-free number and have 2 locations in the U.S. for customer tech support. I am in Canada so these calls were my expense! This was the turning moment for me!! After repeated LENGTHY calls to ASUS who would then say, "let me transfer you to..." and hang up!! Then I'd have to start OVER AGAIN! THREE TIMES THIS HAPPENED WITH BOTH OF THEIR PROVIDED NUMBERS!!! 😖😡 The fourth agent I spoke to suggested I try installing the PREVIOUS VERSION of firmware (that I was using before I updated) and that did resolve the issue. So my suspicions were RIGHT! I assumed that their firmware update was BUGGY and THIS PROVED IT TRUE!!! For all of my efforts trying to resolve this issue, valuable time and money lost, frustration with ASUS incompetent phone support etc, I will NEVER spend another dime on any ASUS products ever again!! I went ahead and purchased the TP-Link AC1500 and I am SO HAPPY WITH IT!! 😁☺😁☺😁 It was a fraction of the price that the ASUS RP-AX56 cost me! It connected to my router instantly!!! Then I relocated it to a plug at the other end of the house (closer to the back deck) and it does exactly what it is supposed to do. WiFi is GREAT anywhere on the deck now!! I will be posting an ad to sell my ASUS RP-AX56 on ebay. Hopefully can get some of my money back since it is 1 year since purchased, and opened box.

My issue with this guide was adding the Node. When it searches for the node, it uses your computer's wifi. My desktop computer didn't have a wifi card or dongle, so I borrowed a wifi dongle from a different computer. Only then was I able to detect the newly reset modem to add it as a Node. Currently adding the node now.

I now have the Rapture GT6’s. These are great. HOWEVER, since this week the node has a weak signal. Nothing had changed, absolutely nothing. No matter what I try (reset, new setup, switching nodes, different placement) the signal does not restore to excellent. There have been no firmware upgrades whatsoever. I simply do not understand what this happends. No I don’t not have interference from neighbors as I live on the countryside. Some advice would be greatly appreciated.

But according to other internet forums the sudden loss of connection on mesh routers is a big issue concerning multiple product lines. Because it is so widespread, I wonder if it’s firmware related. Hi Asus, I have an RT-AC86U main router and I purchased a BLUE CAVE to use as an AI Mesh, I have been trying to add it, I have made sure both devices have the latest software and for some reason, I'm not able to "find" the BlueCave device, I have reset both routers and still have the same problem. @@danylmar Hi, according to your question, to solve the problem it tis suggest that you use Wireless Bridge mode to connect the BLUE CAVE router to the RT-AC86U router. Please ensure that both routers have been updated to the latest firmware version.
