How to setup Subaru HomeLink rear view mirror garage door opener

I tried like 20 times with another video... it failed to mention that you would need to start holding the homelink button a second early and it also didn't mention clicking the button a couple times after you had programmed it into the motor. It finally worked! I've had this car for 11 years and its never worked lol. Thanks a ton! I hate that old busted remote I've been using.

reminds me that the official directions for linking blutooth to my stereo also never worked. I had to go down a rabbit hole. The official directions in the manual will not work at least on android 9-13... you have to use the steering wheel buttons to set it up... the head stereo controls will simply not work for you on a subaru 2011 wrx premium in my experience across multiple android phones over the years.

The garage remote and the learn button were both required for programming for my 2011 outback. It may be due to an old battery but this is how it worked for me which is close to what the video shows. 1. Hold down the first and third button for thirty seconds like it shows in the video. 2. Hold down your current garage door opener remote and 1 of the 3 doors on the mirror like in the video. 3. Press the learn button on the garage door and get back into the vehicle and press the button you just programmed for two seconds, 3 times. The garage door should now open or close, if it does, the programming was properly done.

You have to do both, opener button, and the learn button on the actual opener too. You program the remote to the mirror, as described here, till rapid red blink, then hop on ladder and push the learn button on the opener itself, then back to the mirror and hit the button you're programmed with the remote one more time. Now it will work. Maybe some people have luck with doing one or the other, but my mother's '15 Forester wouldn't sync until I followed the instructions above that I found on a Subaru dealers KZbin. Then it worked on the first try.

Nice tutorial! ...and for those who may run into the same problem I did. The first programming step (using the handheld remote) MAY need the additional step 2. Devices with rolling code technology may require this and that's probably the majority of garage doors out there. Read on and good luck! ... Once you "teach" the HomeLink mirror to recognize the signal the light may flash red quickly for 2 seconds, then go solid red - but still not operate the door. If this happens you need to press the "learn" button on the opener and within 30 seconds press and hold the desired button on the mirror. Apparently this is a "sometimes" required second step. FINALLY mine works!

Thanks for the video. I programmed my 2016 Subaru Outback lickity split by pushing the learn button on the back of the garage motor, got in my car and held down on the button I chose until it stopped blinking (5 seconds or so) and it was programmed.

I was having issues programming the Homelink to open my garage on my 2016 Subaru Legacy. None of the previous techniques worked until I discovered this: I deleted the codes by pressing and holding button 1 and 3 for about 20 seconds. Then you take your garage door opener remote and press it simultaneously with the button you want to program for about 8 to 15 seconds. After, go to your garage door opener unit and press the learning code button, then you have 30 seconds to go back to the car and press the button (you programmed) 3 times. The light on the garage door opener unit should blink. This worked for me. Hope it helps.

Couldn't get mine to work. I think it was weak batteries but I didn't have any button batteries around the house. Finally, came across a suggestion that you move the garage remote around from 1-3 inches, kind of waving it around the outside of the rearview mirror as you hold both buttons. That worked!

Ok, so I finally y got it! This video, while good, did not show the third way to program your HomeLink. The following worked for me the first time: Please use a ladder or other device. Do not stand on your vehicle to perform the next steps. On the garage door motorhead, press and release the learn code button - the red LED will begin to blink. Get back into your vehicle and press the desired HomeLink button one time. Press the desired HomeLink button a second time. Press the HomeLink button a third time. You should see the garage door open/close. HomeLink programming is complete.

This did not work for me. I cannot get the remote to connect to my 2006 Subaru Forester's Homelink on the mirror. When I click both of them at the same time, the mirror Homelink would blink at a slow rate and it would not connect. I tried to press the learn button on the motor and tried connecting it to the mirror that way and still, nothing happens. Any idea?

I had to press the mirror button five or six times while using the learn button on the motor. Three wasn't enough and I read three or more times, so I just kept pressing it till it worked.

I had two things mounted to the windshield at this time, a radar detector and a dash camera that looks like a radar detector. Neither are spliced though, they all run up above the windshield and down into the glove box where I have a cigarette lighter adapter for power.
