I bet the same comment is somewhere down below - I'm new to Resolve but have decades of Photoshop experience and I don't think it works the way you describe it. You have to unlink the RGB sliders after you switch to Lab color space and adjust only the red one (because it controls luminance when in Lab). I think that's why it's so hard to see a difference - you're not actually changing *only* the luminance channel. You're still sharpening all the channels and the differences are almost imperceptible. You'll see more difference if you do it correctly (i.e. unlink the RGB sliders).
@joperez19803 жыл бұрын
There's an FX for sharpening at different frequencies and it gives you even greater control. It would be great if you made a followup video with it!!

Hi Jamie, if you switch to Lab isn't red==Luminance , green==a and blue==b. Hence the cleanest sharpening should occur if you ungroup and just change red. Furthermore, would be interesting whether someone would see a difference if you use Y of YUV.
@JamieFenn4 жыл бұрын
I guess it depends which colors have the most noise in that case.
@thehoggattproject4 жыл бұрын
L= lightness a= red/greed b= blue/yellow. To get the best results, you will want to unlink the radius points and only pull the R slider down. Alternatively, you can right-click the node you are using for sharpening and uncheck channels 1 and 2. This will leave the G and B sliders unaffected if you prefer that way.

I think after you change it to LAB that to only adjust the luminance you need to turn off channel 2 and 3 ( The A and B). Right click the same way and twice go down to channel on the context menu and uncheck channel 2 and the channel 3. Not sure if it makes a difference with this technique but that is how it is usually limiting to one of the channels on the LAB. Good topic though - everybody needs to consider sharpening.
@NathanCarterVids4 жыл бұрын
You're exactly right. The red channel turns into your luminance channel, so in order to adjust luminance only he would need to select only the red (lightness) channel.
@JamieFenn4 жыл бұрын
So then would it have a stronger effect of what I did then? Because it doesn't change the chroma noise when I unlink the RGB any differently then when I do?
@JimRobinson-colors4 жыл бұрын
@@JamieFenn I don't think it affected your procedure here, but in general when you want to apply an effect to a particular channel exclusively - the workflow generally would be to separate it out into its own node by choosing the channel and then you can be assured that it is only working on what you wanted it to. With LAB it works great for working on different hues without affecting the luminosity as an example.

How does this compare to the midtone detail tool on the second tab of the color wheel section?
@JamieFenn4 жыл бұрын
When mid-tone detail is raised, the contrast of regions of the image with high edge detail is raised to increase the perception of image sharpness, sometimes referred to as definition. When this parameter is lowered to a negative value, regions of the image with low amounts of detail are softened while areas of high-detail are left alone. 0 is unity. The range is -100 (minimum) through +100 (very high).
@anthonysyfilms4 жыл бұрын
