Which shims are you using specifically? They come in different thicknesses.

the shimming is to take out the backlash from the ring to the pinion gears not side to side you want at least .010 thousands of backlash if not less

need to consider gear mesh... should it play little bit when i hold the pinion, for spiral cut gears? im in dilemma cuz i have 2 option, no play and very little tight mesh or little bit play and smooth mesh.
