I agreed, I would rather shoot horizontal and crop to vertical later if needed. Great video, and thanks for sharing.

Agreed! I always shoot horizontal, and on my Lumix S5ii, I use 6k Opengate for even more flexibility when cropping for vertical

Thank you very much. I have been super worried about this as most of my Real Estate Videos are viewed on Mobile phones. This information just saved me some thousands from the rush to buy another drone. Thanks again Billy.

I will not rest until the Mavic series can shoot vertically. I shoot a lot of cityscape stuff and there are times where the 1x camera simply is not wide enough to do a vertically cropped shot. I mainly do photography and I sell a good amount of prints.. so losing that much resolution in a photograph is really bad.. especially on a camera with only 20 megapixels. A drone that costs over $2000 should be able to shoot vertically if a cheaper model (Mini 4 Pro) can do it for less than $1000. And yes I'm aware of doing vertical panoramas.. those work sometimes but there's usually stitching errors if I'm shooting close to something.

thank you for your informative content. I'm kind of a novice but I'm watching your video comparison of the inspire 3 and the mavic 3 on a Samsung TV. it seem like you were saying the inspire had better output if I heard it right but on the Samsung TV freeze framing the comparison shots that you have every single mavic 3 image had richer color and more details like you could see the ripples in the water better and just the details on the ship. so I'm saying this not to troll but I think it depends on what the display device is for how good certain shots look from certain cameras or drones?

I wish DJI would enable 4:3 in video to capture more vertical pixels. Even if they have to crop in from the 5.1k sensor. Or I guess the sensor has to be bigger than 5.1k so just give us open gate.

I'm horizonal all day long. Other people are just lazy and/or not willing to learn. I had a guy this week on a FB group tell me he was writing Adode to tell them Premiere should detect stops and turns in drone footage so it would be easier for pilots to edit them out to smooth video. He followed that with "I have 20 years experience using Premiere but its too time consuming". Lazy 🤦♂ Same idea with my S5iix. Shoot in 6k OpenGate then edit for any format.

If you are going to use vertical video for your project why you don't shoot in 5.1/5.4k depending of the drone?
@billykyle4 ай бұрын
On the Mavic 3 it just adds more resolution horizontally, not vertically.
@AnastasTarpanov4 ай бұрын
@@billykyle Actually this is not true. the DCI 4k adds more pixels horizontally for a 17:9 aspect ratio. The 5.1K is the same 17:9 ratio, but the resolution is higher. 5.1K: 5120×2700@24/25/30/48/50 fps DCI 4K: 4096×2160@24/25/30/48/50/60/120* fps 4K: 3840×2160@24/25/30/48/50/60/120* fps. In situations like this, I'm using 5.4K on my Air 2S to maximize the vertical resolution or to crop the image in the post if I need to zoom in.

But we view EVERYTHING in landscape because our eyes are horizontally orientated! TV's and PC monitors are horizontal for a reason. It's only right if you view your entire life through a phone screen
