do you have an online resource on how to measure roofs? Im not sure what measurements to get with a hip or dormers.

Hey, Coby.. To find the areas of a regular hip roof, you'll have to find the areas of two right triangles and two trapezoids [If you go to about minute 5-ish for this example]. The formula for the area of the triangles is base x height / 2. So you'll need the longest rafter length and the gutter along the bottom of that slope. For the trapezoids, the formula is base1 + base2 / 2 x height. So you'll want the main ridge length across the top for base1 and the gutter across the bottom for base2 (this is the longer of the two bases) and then the common rafter length.

I first want to say I have literally watched all your videos I love them thank you. I am inspiring to become an Adjuster. I graduate with my degree in 3 months and hope to get my license next month. I have prior military experience I also have customer service experience and also 1 year of construction experience. Are entry level positions possible to get? Irma was the first storm where all the companies I was estimating for pulled satellite measurements automatically at their cost. They all used Gemini which imported the sketch right into xactimate. It was a pleasant addition and huge time saver. I have been making hand drawn sketches for years and then re-drawing them in xact. I use a different method but not too far off from yours. A good video to make for noobs would be which measurements to take on a roof. I think some guys don’t know what they need to measure.

Great point. Can you imagine how fast you could be if you had free pictometry on every HAIL claim??

Too bad half of the houses there were too covered in trees to use the eagle view. I'd recommend to anybody getting into the business to learn how to physically measure a roof, sketch it on paper and then sketch it into XM8 before considering a deployment to Florida. Otherwise... 2 weeks TOPS! I believe half of the 99's washed out from that single inability alone.
