I’ve been smoking pipes for a few months now. Watched hours of vids on how to pack a pipe and they are all misleading saying the three pinch method u gotta pack it as a child, as a woman, as a man. To me pack it as a man means pretty hard. Screw it, you sir allowed me to enjoy my first real cold and dry pipe and the flavour! Omg the flavour! Thank you man! This vid is GREAT!

This “frank method” was a game changer for me. Definitely. Thanks!

Thanks Brad for this recording. I am 68 today and am getting back into pipes. Your videos have enlightened me. Concerning the Frank filling method, after filling , if one placed their thumb on top of the fill and then twisted the pipe 360 degrees a couple times it would lock in the top layer. I watched another video on this method. My 2 cents worth. Enjoy your videos, especially when you change your voice to read the tobacco reviews. Smoke on.

I worked as a tobacconist for three years before I went into the Air Force. This was before the Internet. I never pinched the tobacco or top loaded a pipe. I put the pipe in the bag or jar and used my index finger to push the tobacco in gently increasing the pressure. However, I like Mr. Frank's method. I wish I had the Interwebs when I first started.

You should explain how to load a pipe with other cuts (flake, for instance). Great video!!!

At last! This is the only video I've found that provides a sufficiently tight view of pipe and tobacco during the packing process to be helpful. Especially helpful for the Frank Method. Would love to see additional vids on "modified" methods you mention. Liked and Subscribed. Thanks man.

Bradley did you see the video of the man from Fox's pipe shop in Dublin demonstrate loading the pipe by putting tobacco in one palm and turning the pipe upside down with the other hand and rotating little circles and it load the pipe like a swirling motion.reminded me because this seem similar but you are rotating the tobacco in the pipe ,same maybe but opposite direction.I appreciate all of these beginner videos ,so well done and easy to understand.good man,thank you so much.

I never got full pleasure out pipe smoking until I tried the Frank Method. The 3 layer method never worked for me and I held onto it for far to long wasting many a good smoke.

just Watched this a new along with another Brad's clip nro 9 'the moisture content, and tell you what,seemingly these few reminders helped me out to avoid experementing that ennoying leathery feel on my tongue and bite, at least so far-thse are real simply and effective-lesson, as how best to enjoy your pipe:now keeping in mind the following;1. make sure your tobacco is not moist in any way,2 .proper packing and go slow ,relight where needed. Thank You for these suggestion Brad,greets,Paul

This is a terrific video! I used your method and just had a near perfect smoke. Only two lights and I made it all the way through a bowl of Frog Morten Cellar in my new Peterson pipe. The Frank Method looks like far too much work for my liking.

I really enjoy your channel. I am french speaking, but pretty fluent in english. The way you record your videos, the sound, your speach (speack slowly and pronounce every word) makes your videos easy to understand. I have a few questions/comments... I have been smoking pipe since august of last year. I can only smoke outside, so that is a bummer during the winter (I live in the province of Quebec). I heard you saying once that smoking a briar outside during winter is not good. Have I heard you right? Why would that be? This summer, I might be increasing the size of my backyard shed, so I will have some room to put a heater and so, have a nice place to smoke during the cold days. I saw you put a finger on the bowl of your pipe while smoking. Can you explain why you are doing this. I assume it has something to do with the combustion and oxygen content... With this video, I finally understood the Franck method. I saw some other videos, but the way you explained the method, made it easier to understand. I still have not tried it, but I will certainly in the next few days. Also, thanks for the "light pack" method. I do smoke some Frog Morton, and I sometimes had problems keeping it lit with the 3 pinch method, so I will give it a try. Finally, I love your tobacco reviews. The information that you put on the screen makes it easy to follow (being a visual person). I also like that you talk about the nicotine content. I understand that it is a little subjective, but being a nicotine wimp, I try to stay away of mid-high level nicotine content. So this information is important for me (an information that is absent on the site TobaccoReviews.com). BTW, I do also enjoy the reviews on other things, especially your pen reviews. Keep up the great work.

Let's see if I can answer your questions: I can't specifically remember saying anything about smoking in winter, but perhaps I was talking about bad weather in general. It's a good idea not to smoke your pipe outside on windy days. You can easily end up with too much airflow through the pipe, which will lead it to burn very hot and cause damage. There are wind caps for this type of issue, but they still can't do much to protect against a strong wind. A finger over the bowl restricts the airflow which increases the pressure of the oxygenated air when you draw it through the pipe. This can help revive a dying ember. I appreciate the feedback! Take care!
@GillesCassidy9 жыл бұрын
Stuff&Things Thank you for the answers... I thought it was because of the cold. I'll be more careful with the wind issue.
@stuffandthingsyoutube9 жыл бұрын
My pleasure! Thermal changes can have some effect, but it's mostly the wind you need to watch out for.

You say you use the Frank method most often, but you hate rim darkening. Since filling to the rim is a characteristic of that packing method, how do you avoid darkening on the rim? Do you end up tamping that packet of tobacco down just below the rim before lighting, or do you clean up the rim after you've finished your bowl? Thanks!

I do tamp just a bit, which purists would yell at me for!

How long should I expect a bowl to smoke if packed using the frank method?
@stuffandthingsyoutube7 жыл бұрын
It varies widely depending on the size of the bowl and the kind of tobacco and your own rate of smoking.
