Miss Toya,can you soak the fruits in a spiced rum or a Jamaican rum. Could you add some sugar and some citrus zest to the soaked fruits…? I know there are so many ways to go about preparing this !

I wouldn't recommend adding sugar because the dried fruits are super sweet, and you will be adding sugar to the actual cake, so I wouldn't recommend

It doesn't really matter add you favorite favorite because at the end when you are ready to bake you going to measure the puree amount by cups

You can use some dates, but you will have to cut the sugar in half, or the cake will be super sweet in the end

Walnuts will go in when you are making the cake batter. You don't have to soak any nuts.

We have ours in a glass jar and pour more here and there over time (you want the liquid to just cover the fruit).

I have fruits in soak up to 3 and 4 years. I have 5 glassware with fruits so I used the oldest first. But there is no set time, it depends on you.

My mother had a big jar she kept for years. Didn’t make black cake but used it to flavor other cakes. It was good in banana bread.
