I’ve spent thousands of hours playing and in recent years as many hours trying to learn the things I don’t know on youtube. Your ideas about soloing with chord tones and the way you communicate it really are the only thing that have made sense to me in 30 years of trying to get to a place I want to be in the guitar universe. I found some of your previous vids on this subject about 6 months ago... Im still not that great at applying it in a totally improvisational manner, but when I can work them out the results are much more musically interesting. I found your ideas so helpful. Thankyou! Best teacher on KZbin IMO. I took the membership and I can highly recommend that you you too, if you are not studying in some music school, but you want to get the most out of your playing. It's very easy to improve your "base"-level and after you start seeing those chord positions etc, it's very easy to remember all the scales etc. Give it a try. And no, i am not a partner or anything and i pay the membership from my own purse. It is just bloody cool stuff there.

@@BrettPapa I think I misspoke. I have been on lesson one for at least a week alone, and I am only halfway through it. It was easy enough to look at the "A-F#m-D-E" progression and figure out how to add the C# from the D chord, and the G# from the E Chord into the pentatonic position 1 and come up with a couple of melodic passes, because you had moved very slowly and explained in excruciating detail how the notes from those chords were outside of the pentatonic scale, and could be added back in, but I got a little lost when you moved on to the "Am-G-F-G" progression. I think for me to really get this, I am going to have to stop and map out the chords in a few positions and figure out what chord tones (From the Am-G-F-G" progression) are outside the pentatonic... probably a lot more work than "one month" to fully "get." Also, when you add the "G#" and the "C#" to the pentatonic scale, I notice you get the full A major scale, yes?

I’m really glad I decided to watch this video..! It’s probably the best way I’ve seen so far to explain how to marry the chord shapes to the scales and the melody..!👍🏼 Question is… what’s the best practice routine that’ll hammer these shapes into my brain and fingers..? ..so that I’ll eventually not need to take 2 full minutes in order to find my next step in the middle of a progression…? Thanks man..!
@BrettPapa3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Joseph! Honestly just repetition. Pick three chords and work with them in a 5 fret span at a time fusing them with your pentatonic pattern in the same fret area. That will help a ton.

Brett Papa : I was on the Live Stream Members Only website watching your video on Your Equipment You Use and I was curious if you have to run the Ox through your computer to be able to use their software or can you just plug straight into your amp’s speaker input and then plug the amp speaker or speaker cab, directly into the Ox ? In other words can I just plug the Ox into the amp speaker input and get the same effects from the Ox as you do ? Thanks 🙏
@BrettPapa4 жыл бұрын
You can run the OX without a computer. You can use an iPad or other device to control the software via bluetooth in a live situation. Also if you want or the OX has a six selector switch on the front you can program six different rig sounds on. XTS also makes a foot switch that you can turn the delay, reverb, and EQ or compressor on and off.

@@BrettPapa Thanks. Using Bluetooth ? A person would have to have data with their cell phone company ? Sorry for the dumb computer questions. I need computer training so bad. I used PC’s since 1996 and finally bought a MacBook Pro two years ago but mostly use my iPad Pro 12.9. I am afraid the battery would run down and I would be stuck, I don’t have a Sims card but have wireless internet through out the house and now with the latest iOS download when I am on the iPad and my Apple 10XS max phone rings, I mostly always use the speaker phone selection, the conversation now comes across my iPad and blows my mind, which incidentally doesn’t take much to do. LOL 😂 I used to tell my Dad that something was driving me crazy and he would reply, Well that is short trip. LOL 😂 Without putting you on the spot, would you recommend a bedroom player purchasing the OX ? If I do, I will not be able to buy much else for the rest of the year. Mardi Gras and New Orleans Jazz Fest are canceled again this year, I don’t do the Mardi Gras but love going to Jazz Fest and that takes a good bit of money. Sorry to rattle on. Any suggestions on computer training from the house ? I haven’t even used Garage Band yet. I wish you could do a video on how you used to use Garage Band and or how you use your Universal Audio hooked up to your Apple computer and OX, and make it all work. Don’t mean to be a bother. Thanks for responding. Since you are in F. TN. Do you ever see Steve Conn ? I have known him since the mid to late 70’s. Back when Indians would circle the chuck wagons. We used to mimic their drum beats, later changing them to the blues, and then rock n roll. LOL 😂

Thank you as always for your great video. This is great eye-opener :) That beautiful Fender Stratocaster, what year is it? is it a custom? do share :)

Thanks! It is actually a Nash guitar with a Fender sticker on it. It's probably 14 years old now.

@@BrettPapa Oh an old Nash. Yeah I've seen you use them. It's a real beauty. My dream one is a white fender with a reverse headstock like KK Downing used 80-82 :)
