Great help Mike. Have been searching for answers everywhere as to why my audio recording on screenflow was so quiet. Was starting to think the problem was my Rode Podcaster (USB mic) and that I'd have to upgrade to an XLR. This has solved the problem and no upgrade required!

Lots of audio plugins works well in screenflow. For instance the isotope 7 noise remover. It's a great time saver in the editing process to not have to export/import the audio back. Do you have any other plugin recommendations for screenflow?

This was very helpful, Mike; thank you! What was the DBX plugin you referred to? I'm using an EV RE20 mic; do you think your settings would work well for that mic? (Of course, I know it depends a lot on the frequencies in one's voice.) I'll be watching your video on the "clap" sync also once I find it!

Hi Mike and thanks for all your great videos. I have 1 question if I may. When I record my desktop audio with Screenflow, I always get massive amount of reverb which makes the audio unusable for any kind of production. Any tips on how I can avoid reverb when capturing my desktop audio with Screenflow. I have a 2020 iMac (BigSur). Be well.

The best advice I can give for vocals is to record in acoustically treated space and you might also want to try a dynamic microphone. If it's the actual computer audio that's echoing then you must have the sound feeding back on itself somewhere in the chain. It's probable the output from Screenflow is flowing back to the source you're capturing. Check you audio routing to try and eliminate this.

Hi! Thank you so much for this! May I ask how you set the gain on your microphone and how you set the sound input in your Mac's sound references? I have a Blue Yeti and with those settings, my sound is clipping all over the place. Thank you!
@MikeRussell
@MikeRussell 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Christian, it's better to record too quiet than too loud. You can always boost quiet audio in post processing but analogue clipping is much harder to remove. This video shows you how to set you microphone levels for Adobe Audition but the principal of setting the level should transfer across kzbin.info/www/bejne/gGK0nWqDod19hrc

@@MikeRussell Hi! Thank you SO MUCH for your reply. My setup is the following: my Blue Yeti is about 12" from my face, the gain of the Blue Yeti is at around 25%, the input of my Mac is at 90% (I reach between -12 and -6), and I use pretty much the same audio settings as yours in ScreenFlow. Here is an example: kzbin.info/www/bejne/n4uVg6Ojm7t1mJI (The "boosted" sound using your settings in ScreenFlow start at 0:45.) Can you please tell me what you think? I feel like it doesn't sound good (lots of vibrations and distortions). Maybe it's just my voice? Thanks again!
@MikeRussell
@MikeRussell 4 жыл бұрын
If you export the project with no processing do you get the same poor sound? It sounds like you need to adjust the settings in the audio processor section, particularly the master gain setting.

Hello, I really enjoy your videos, also may I ask you a question? I really need audio advice because I'm having trouble with my audio on screen flow. I plugged in my Yeti, set it up on the interface but I can't hear any of the audio on-screen flow! I looked at a few KZbin videos, but they didn't help. It's nerve-racking. . Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

hi Mike - not a question related to this subject but you are the font of all things Screenflow At the weekend I created a video montage of a load of photographs for a friend's birthday - re start & ending transitions I faded in and out, which was easy to do, but... is there any way to either randmise the style of transitions or set them all to increase in & out (ie Ken Burns effect)? will save me hours of time and will look much better am just about to upgrade to V10 this afternoon

Thanks so much Stuart. I'm not aware of this feature in ScreenFlow. You may have more luck automating a process such as this with Premiere Pro. Check out Premiere Gal - she's ace at this stuff: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rGO7amx_jKigY6M

Great advice that I've employed for years, but I've run into a problem when using it during the last couple of years. I'm wondering if you, Mike, or others have experience this too... In the last few videos I’ve made I’ve found that applying these techniques has introduced an occasional “crackle” in the audio. I have not found a correlation between anything in the original audio and the spot where a crackle is introduced so I’m baffled as to why the crackle is being added. Also, sometimes the crackles remains upon exporting and sometimes it vanishes… or moves. I've tried to ask Screenflow tech support but that, along with the previously very useful user forum, has been shut down. Mike, have you experienced this and if so, might you have any updated guidance on how to avoid it?
@MikeRussell
@MikeRussell 5 ай бұрын
I recommend checking your audio interface settings and sample rate in ScreenFlow to ensure they match your recording settings and exporting in a higher quality format to potentially reduce the crackling issue. Good luck!

@@MasterCoachUniversity I found that in screenflow it is better to use plugins vs smooth levels just because you have more control on the order of which these are applied. I seem to get random results sometimes with the smooth level button. With the filters the result is always consistent.
