My best American friend, Chris. He told me he was shy. But to me, he's really expressive. America has a culture of being vocal expressive.

Being an introvert doesn't necessarily mean "shy and prefer to be alone". Yes we tend to be more quiet. It's to do with being overstimulate by big groups, lots of noise, etc. Not all introverts are shy, and it doesn't mean we all prefer to be alone, we just need to recharge after being in simulating social environments.

And on the flip side, I’m very soft spoken but I love and gain energy from social interactions. I don’t think people understand what introvert/extrovert really means!

Having accent is not per se embarrassing, as it indicates that the person knows at least one more language (which is a good thing), but we should make our accents less strong in order to make them more understandable for others specially for the natives.
@DawnPeacock2 жыл бұрын
Exactly! Having an accent means you have made the effort to learn a language you didn't grow up with. 💛 And having an expressive voice is more important than pronouncing all the individual sounds exactly "right". If you have expressive intonation, you will get your point across quite effectively, even with an accent.

This is an important point. Sometimes my students have to give presentations in English, and some of them have a monotone voice. That makes their presentation sound less interesting and engaging. We work on how to use more emotion to make the rhythm sound more appealing in English.

Thank you lisa for this vry interesting lesson, I have a question if you don't mind, in my culture and I noticed in other cultures too, the way men speak is different from the way women speak, do Americans, men and women, use intonations at the same place of the sentence for, I noticed californian girls have a special way of speaking, they stretch the words and all their sentences end as if they are asking a question.
