This is one of the reasons why I hesitate on taking new homes. I'm slow because I deep clean the whole room. I mean, baseboards, windows and if I can reach the fan, the fan will get clean too. To me, unless I remove the dirt and grime, I don't feel satisfied with the quality of my work. For the following reason I don't charge a lot per hour. Not because I want to take advantage of the owner but because the sad reality is that homeowners really don't know how dirty their house is. If I can become efficient while deep cleaning a house then I do see myself getting more clients and expanding my business. If you have links or books that can help me find a solution to my slow pace please let me know.

@@AskAngelaBrown Yes, it does make sense. And that is something I need to learn to distinguish. There will be some customer's that will want the whole deep cleaning experience and others that are OK not having their baseboards cleaned every time I go. I will research more on what is the difference between the basic and deep cleaning so I can put together a check list for each one. I grew up deep cleaning (thanks to my mom) but I'm learning in the cleaning business industry there are different type of cleanings AND different prices for each. Thank You for your reply. Me too!! I have OCD-seriously... and when I’m cleaning I have to get it perfect... I am paid by the job not the hour... like ??? So it doesn’t really matter. I’m not going to cut corners. Sorry bout it 🤷🏼‍♀️

I always say I don't go slow I'm just so thorough that I can't even control myself. Yes I do baseboards and heaters and just everything once I get into a room nothing is untouched I just cleaned everything I can. What do most people charge? I think I'm under charging myself

True, same here. I feel guilty if I don’t wipe clean the doors & walls as I go. Baseboards too. Problem is if another person cleans, another one cleans without touching those then by the time I’m coming back to the same house, the dirt has accumulated bcoz the others thought it was clean. Unless it’s a permanent house/houses cleaned all the time then it becomes easier bcoz I maintain 😁

Thank you ! I am a slow worker, although Im not sure I am? Im very thorough I believe. I feel that everyone else is faster than I am because they aren't cleaning like they are supposed to? I see tables that haven't been wiped, toilet bowls that haven't been scrubbed etc. Im on here looking for short cuts or a faster way I can get things done

That is one of my frustrations I can't speed up,I have costumers but I guess they keep me because I charge less and stay more for I get pay this is driving me crazy is something the want to change. No matter what I do to fixed it nothing change

How did you know my husband and I had this discussion yesterday? Lol😂😂😂 We were just discussing about re training and having a meeting about getting up to speed. This one particular person is very dependable and a hard worker but very very slow. Notice I said that two times. We did a move out clean a couple weeks a go and the whole time we were at the customers home they were on the kitchen. When the customer came back I went in the kitchen and started helping him move quickly because I started seeing the customer getting irritated. He easily gets off task by talking alot. By watching this video you en lighten me on somethings to help me address this issue.

100% agree with Angela. it really sucks if the staff member is going slow but when you mentioned the client had been in the house the whole time during cleaning, I thought of this- does your staff member feel obliged to talk to the client? The client may be asking the staff member something and the staff member feels that in order to provide good service they have to talk. I work for myself and this happens to me alot. I get angry at myself when Ive been sucked into feeling obliged to have a chat with a customer. It chews into my time. I can recommend you talk to your staff member and genuinely tell them that while being friendly is part of the job, that being a clients therapist is NOT. Next time the client is lingering by your staff member, make a joke like "Hey ( insert client name) , I think we need to let (insert staff name) do some work now, I cant be doing it all myself." Also if this particular client is lingering by your staff alot- observe for any possible signs of harrassment. Your staff member may worry that their work will get cut if they report it. Be approachable.

I’d rather have some one deep clean and scrub scrub scrub and clean throughly and take time and do the job right then be speedy and do the job horribly wrong and not clean throughly! I realize you got to do a pace yes but I want the job done right!

It would be really impossible to keep a schedule with someone who takes too long. 3 houses a day or more cant be done like this. You need speed and efficiency.

@StormChaser17 That's adorable. If you've never owned a cleaning business, especially in this economy...then you have no idea what it takes to make a living doing this. . If you're not quick, you don't eat. If you're not quick, you choose between getting gas and supplies and getting lunch and dinner. Dont tell me not to go fast...cause I'll tell you to buy my fucking groceries if you want me to take my time.

For those of you commenting your speed is slow due to deep cleaning as opposed to maintenance cleaning, create separate checklists for yourself and the client. Let them know what's included in a maintenance clean and what is included in a deep clean or even move outs. I used to make the same mistake until I handed these lists to my clients. They have very clear what each cleaning includes and what the cost is, and it also helps me not to deviate from each task, even if I see a dusty fan that bothers me. If they are not paying for a deep clean I stay away for cleaning it. Fridge and oven cleaning are also charged extra and that's also very clearly stated in the checklists I hand them when I do walkthroughs. If you have employees, as soon as you get home explain what they need to do and which specific areas to tackle. I had this girl that I guess was forgetful and I had to remind her several times the areas that were clean already, she will go and clean them again, so I had to be on top of her all the time. I let her go eventually because there was no improvement even though I tried to help her speed up.

I used to clean houses with my mom, but man cleaning by myself is a nightmare for me at times. I almost get emotional if I can't get to everything on time. Like for example; I'm working for a company and I had a move out clean in an apt complex. I had 3 1/2 hours to do finish this place! I had to clean the cabinets, the stove, it was greasy and the bathroom. And it took me 4 1/2 hours to do! I had more to do. What is wrong with me?! 😭😭 I am going back in the morning. Of course, for free.

Definitely also be aware of and sure, that YOU are being given the amount of time needed to do the job. Especially with move out cleans. Because not every 2bed/2bath/1,000sq ft home is going to be the same, in condition and in build. All of which affects the level of cleaning required and the time it will take. And move out cleans in general absolutely require more time then a residential maintenance or even a residential deep clean. Make sure you're being given a fair, adequate amount of time, to do the job required. There are employers, business owners who sub out jobs to other cleaners, who are unreasonable with their expectations. Just something to consider before you work yourself to ragged and/or drive yourself into an unhealthy state from stress and anxiety and go about doing any work for free.

the reason I am slow is cause I don't want to get hurt 😭 if I get injured im out of work. I think a lot of cleaners put it off until they can't get out of bed. they also eat garbage for fuel to get to the next house. too much focus on rushing a job and not being proud of it. I was on the other side too where we had a local family clean where I worked. they were done in less than an hour, but we could tell. unfortunately people aren't starring at the floor and trashcan, they're starring where they use the space, the tables and the countertops. and when spiders start making webs on the ceiling, you know they're not looking up cause they're so busy looking down to get the floors, that'll be dirty regardless cause people walk everyday.

Hi Angela, first I want to thank you for your videos, they're really instructive and motivating! I'm new in the cleaning industry and have learned a ton by my noob mistakes already. Despite this, I enjoy cleaning so that's the bright side of it. The speed is something I still have to work on. As other comments say, I also like to really clean, but if I do so, time is not enough. I have had to clean big companies all alone in only 3 hours. Is this time normal or just nasty working demands? I feel like they are asking for poor cleaning just to pay little.

I LOVE your videos and learn so much, to apply to myself. Also...So you're considering turning them into independent contractors? Just be aware, I think then there are limits to how much you can manage how they do the job, you have more control over simply that it gets done and of course agreed upon quality. There are other issues ('positive' and 'negative'), and I only know a little about it, but there's more to it than just taking them off hourly. There's probably a way to provide bonuses- perhaps a way to incentivize without having to go the IC route. Just a thought.

Yes, you're correct, they have to resign from your company. They become their own boss. They have to have other clients. They carry their own insurance, bring their own cleaning supplies, wear their own uniform. They no longer work for you, you simply outsource the job to them.

If you are doing on-site training, you train your cleaners on actual jobs. You have them shadow you for a couple of weeks so you can watch how they work, and you can help tweak their processes as work.

I have a question.. my wife works for a veey small cleaning business. They have 2 clients that use coke. My wife has even came across some needles in one house. Always coke powder all over. Am I wrong to feel as tho she should speak up and say she doesn't feel comfortable cleaning these homes? Frankly it pissed me off.. putting my wife in a situation where she could get hurt. Be it a needle.. be it dusting and maybe breathing in drugs! Or whos to say a drug dealer couldnt show up and something could happen!!! All this being said, the houses are white collared but still is indeed they are druggy homes. Id like to tell her boss NO MORE but i dont know if i have that right or if my wife has that right without losing her job. Please opinions are appreciated ty

Yes. You have the right to talk to the boss and say that you are uncomfortable working in this environment. The boss wouldn't knowingly send you to a dangerous home. If you know they are doing coke and you see a gun not in a secure place, say something. It's better to be safe than sorry. Your wife can also ask to be reassigned to a different house. Your life / your wife's life is far more important than the money she earns if her life is in danger. I'm so sorry this is happening. :-(

And its just her and her boss with this cleaning business. So the boss sees all of this also but doesnt care, tho I think my wife sees a little more as shes the one who dusts everything. And the boss also would not want to lose one of these houses its her highest paying client. My thoughts are, fine if her boss wants to chance it she can do this house and the other house without my wife. Butttt its not my job so i dont know how much say I have...

So this is just a constant advert for all the different companies, services & products u can use to speed up. If u can find an employee that is faster then u get a new & replace ur old slow employee. If u can't find someone else then ur probably expecting to much for the time compared to ur competition. Cleaning is about cleaning not doped & it takes time to do this properly. If u hassle bout time all that happens is employees look for shortcuts. The world needs to value other people's time a bit more. I live in UK & I find it perverse that £9 an hour is looked at as a good wage. It would take me 2 weeks to afford 1.night in the hotel I'm employed in yet they don't even want to spend £9 so an hours work on a suite. I wonder what the guest would say to that. The faster workers tend to do things like clean toilet & cups etc with same cloths & worse.

I believe in America they clap their hands and say "Andale! Andale!" and they respond that "I'm not Mexican, I'm from India..." and that just means "Acknowledged".

Try Nextdoor.com and run an ad that says you would like to be a full time housekeeper/nanny. Be prepared to provide a resume and references, pass a drug and background check, clean drivers license, and working permit or green card. There are LOTS of moms who could probably use the help.
