Thanks for the video. Why are they kept in dark space?
@Foodtolive3 жыл бұрын
In nature, seeds do not germinate as well in light as in the dark. This is due to light decomposing the carbonic acid gas, expelling the oxygen, and fixing the carbon; as a result hardening all the parts of the seed, and preventing vegetation. However, once the seed sprouts, light is required, so the sprouts can undergo photosynthesis.

I'm very grateful to have learned this very important info. It's simple and requires very little time or equipment. Already keep all my dried fruits in 32oz mason jars which I eat in the morning also. For some reason my misperception before watching this was that it required soil. Sprouts from the store are so expensive so I can't wait to start eating them more often to get more glucoraphanin, a compound that is converted to sulforaphane during digestion.

"Merry and Happy Sprouting" was the name of my Gift Box.. I have been sprouting for many years. It's very easy and nice to see your seeds opening and growing. The most important about sprouting is to water enough, but not too much. Also, to keep your sprouts out of direct sunlight. It is better to keep them in a fresh area. I add them to my salads, sandwiches, smoothies, soups, and cooked grains as a decoration. It is a very smart way to take the maximum nutrition from greens and legumes without eating too much salads. And the most important, they are so cute that you will enjoy it very much!

@@Foodtolive I use a Chai concentrate to make Nog, that you can spike it for those feeling extra jolly or keep it clean for the kiddos. Here's the recipe.. The Concentrate: 4 cups Water 2 Cinnamon sticks 1in piece Fresh Ginger, shaved 1 Tbsp Orange Zest, optional 1 tsp Cardamom Seed 5 Star Anise, whole 5 Allspice, whole 20 Cloves, whole 10 Black peppercorns, whole 1 tsp Nutmeg 2/3 cup Brown Sugar 2 Tbsp Vanilla Extract ~Bring the 1st 10 ingredients to a boil and simmer 10 mins, at this point I usually turn off the heat add the Sugar and the Vanilla, then I'll leave the mixture to steep while it cools for a couple hours before straining. The Polish: 1 1/2 cups Bourbon 3 cups Plant Milk (I prefer either Oat Milk or Silk Protein Cashew Blend for creaminess) 1 tsp Xanthan Gum A sprinkle of Ceylon Cinnamon to dust each mug ~ Just whisk the polish together and add equal parts to the concentrate; if you're making virgin Nog you can sub Coconut Cream for the Bourbon or just add more Milk of choice. Hi ...enjoyed the video ...Question => can i use ozoned water instead of filter ? is there any difference ? Thanks
@Foodtolive7 ай бұрын
Hi! Glad you enjoyed the video! Regarding your question, while ozonated water can be used for sprouting, it's essential to be cautious as ozone can affect the sprouting process and may not be suitable for all seeds. Using filtered water ensures a consistent and safe environment for sprouting without introducing additional variables. However, if you choose to use ozonated water, it's advisable to research its effects on the specific seeds you're sprouting and proceed with caution. Hope this helps!

thank you for a great video, I'm a little confused b/c I watched several videos that recommend 2 full days in the dark and days 3-5 in a well lighted room. I did this with the previous sprouts and it worked great. I have noticed that this brand doesn't sprout as much with the same days in the dark, I will try 3 full days. I also did not soak that long at all. Guess we'll try.
@Foodtolive Жыл бұрын
Hi Marly, thanks for sharing. A couple of factors can effect the sprouting process. The temperature, the humidity, as well as air circulation in the area where the jars with seeds are placed. Many methods call for a short soaking time (4-6 hrs), however I found an overnight soak to produce a better germination rate. Yes, you do keep the seeds in the dark (inside a kitchen cabinet in our case) for 3 full days. Hope this helps.
@marly1869 Жыл бұрын
@@Foodtolive thank you so much for the feedback..🙏🏼 I did the overnight soak this time and 3 days in the dark..I’m on the 5th day now and waiting to see the results. So far I don’t see that much of a difference. I used the same exact spot for the dark pantry phase with the first seeds I had mentioned before and they sprouted quicker and more full.. Is it okay to mix the alfalfa and the in the broccoli seed? I only have one jar and I'm making these for my birds
@Foodtolive2 жыл бұрын
Yes, absolutely. In fact, in this video we sprout broccoli seeds separately and a seed mix (broccoli, alfalfa, and clover). However, please pay attention to your proportions. You are adding 1 tablespoon of seeds in total, so use half of tbsp of broccoli and half alfalfa. If you put more than directed, the seeds can rot, due to lack of space. Hope this helps :)

Today is my 1st time sprouting. Is it okay to use bottled alkaline water to soak my sprouts? Like Essentia or Trader Joe's has an alkaline water too.
@Foodtolive4 ай бұрын
Hi! Welcome to sprouting! 🌱 Using bottled alkaline water like Essentia or Trader Joe’s is generally fine for soaking your sprouts. Just make sure the water is clean and free from any additives.

thanks for the lesson! we thought maybe you might be able to recycle the water you're pouring down the sink...perhaps water other plants or the lawn? water is so precious...thanks again!

Following your tips religiously! Day 4 and my alfalfa mix has a pleasingly scented fresh grass aroma, but the brocolli seeds, by contrast, smell a bit nasty, like old brussel sprouts or sulfur. Should I chuck them?

Hi i'm a newbie I bought Waltham 29 Broccoli Seeds for microgreen in soil but will it work for jar too ? or what is the best way soil? jar? or paper?
@Foodtolive2 жыл бұрын
Waltham 29 Broccoli Seed variety is good for both - soil and jar. Both methods are good and simple, however some people prefer not to deal with soil and planting and choose the jar method, which is described in detail in this video. Judging by the reviews of our customers, the most popular way to sprout broccoli seeds is in the jar or a spouter, soil method is often used for arugula seeds. Hope this helps!

How long are the seeds good, if kept in the fridge?
@Foodtolive2 жыл бұрын
In the fridge maximum 8 days, however if they're moist even less than that. In the freezer, a couple of months!

I’m using a different sprout seed than you are and only about half of my jar has sprouts by the end of 6 days. I rinse and drain well and follow all your instructions. Thinking I’m going to have to switch brands of seeds. Thanks

So sorry to hear that. Perhaps the seeds are expired?

My cat loves broccoli sprout too. Gladly dont need soil, can't wait to start this and can i use this method for wheatgrass ?
@Foodtolive3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your question. You can use this method for wheatgrass, however wheatgrass grows better in an open sprouter, as the grass has much more room to grow straighter and taller. Hope this helps :)
