I'm at the age of 29 now and finally I had courage to join swimming classes to beat the fear of water. I was able to float with support but I couldn't land without it. I tried for a long time and my coach said I need to overcome the fear by myself and start doing it. I saw your video and in the same class I was able to land without support. Tried few times near the side walls of the pool and then I tried at the middle of the pool. I was able to stand without any support and now I'm totally fearless. Thanks to your steps that you explained. I was running these steps in my mind when I was floating and was able to stand effortlessly just in one class.

I started lessons a few weeks ago as well, and also found it difficult to let go at first. But after the first week, I gained more confidence and more and more every week. My instructors say that learning to swim for adults is difficult because of that fear that we have… so that is definitely the thing I recommend getting rid of first. Also recommended asking questions before trying something. They wanted me to try floating and said they’d be right there, but I NEEDED to know what to do if they weren’t there. So I asked how to get out of it and that helped a ton. Watching these videos also help, as I’m very analytical. 😊

Hi Jhan, it's great to hear that you're making progress in your swim lessons! It's definitely normal to feel afraid when learning to swim as an adult, but it's important to try to overcome that fear and trust in your instructors. Asking questions is a great way to feel more comfortable and confident in the water, and it's always better to be prepared for any situation. It's also helpful to watch videos and be analytical, as this can give you a better understanding of the techniques and help you feel more prepared. I went for five swimming classes and my coach is refusing to teach me anything else until I am able to do this standing by myself, letting go of the wall. Somehow it's not coming to me naturally. As much as I would like to try again, is it really such an important second step after floating? Wouldn't this action come to you once you learn swimming and intuitively want to put your feet down? Can someone help with an answer? Thank you!

Thank you for sharing your experience with us! While it's normal to struggle with new skills in swimming, standing on your own is a crucial step in building your overall swimming ability. Your coach may be trying to ensure that you have a strong foundation before moving on to more advanced techniques. Thanks for the video. What if the water is above your head when you stand?
@RocketSwimming Жыл бұрын
If the water is above your head when you stand, it's important to focus on building your comfort and confidence in the water. Practice floating, kicking, and gradually getting accustomed to being in deeper water while holding onto the pool's edge or using a flotation device. As you become more comfortable, you can work on techniques like treading water and eventually swimming in deeper water. Always prioritize safety and practice in a controlled environment.

I'm finding it hard to float on my stomach and standing up. I can float on my back and instructor showed me how to stand up panicked a couple of times. I have been watching and watching your videos Thank you. I have a lesson tomorrow wish me luck. Marlene
@RocketSwimmingАй бұрын
Don't worry! It's totally normal to find it a bit challenging to float on your stomach and stand up initially. It takes practice, but you'll get there. Here are a few tips: 1: Exhale slowly and continuously through your nose while you're floating. This will help you stay relaxed and buoyant. 2: Try to keep your back straight and your legs extended. This will help you maintain a horizontal position in the water. 3: Spread your arms out wide to help you stay balanced. As for standing up, here's a simple method: 1: Start by floating on your back. 2: Bring your knees up towards your chest. 3: Place your feet flat on the bottom of the pool. 4: Slowly push yourself up into a standing position. It totally depends on the confidence level of the swimmer. If you are confident enough to watch and follow the exact instructions from the video, you'll not need a swim teacher. It's completely normal to feel afraid when you're learning to swim. It's important to take things at your own pace and not to push yourself too hard. It might be helpful to try using a flotation device, like a kickboard or a noodle, to help you feel more comfortable in the water. You can also try practicing floating and treading water first to build your confidence. It's also a good idea to have a swim instructor or a lifeguard nearby to offer guidance and support. Don't be afraid to ask for help or take breaks if you need them. With time and practice, you'll start to feel more comfortable and confident in the water.
