Wow, thank you, learned a lot about running my generator. I need to buy a convenience cord, from that cord can I run an extension cord to my refrigerator and if so what kind? What kind of tent should I buy for my new 6000W champion Generator? Hopefully I was able to buy a descent generator. It's a big thing, so thankfully it came with wheels that I installed.

If I am only using the convenience cord for a few hours like you showed in your video for my refrigerator and laptop, do I need to ground the generator? It didn't look like you did during the video?

Hello, we have an in-depth explanation inside this article. Most generators today are built as bonded neutral generators that are already grounded properly on the generator frame itself, however you need to look at the owner's manual to make sure your generator uses that method and is not a floating neutral generator that requires a separate grounding procedure. Please read more here: www.electricgeneratorsdirect.com/stories/1021-How-to-Avoid-Tripping-a-Generator-With-a-Bonded-Neutral.html.

I'm confused as to whether I need to add an RCBO in order to use my generator? It's the Honda EU22i, and I'm using it to power 4 appliances which will total about 1000W. Is it safe to plug straight into a generator, or should you always have an RCBO or breaker?

Great question. A Residual Current Breaker with Overcurrent is not a required item for a generator. Generators have built in breakers that protect from overdraw and the inverters put out cleaner power then utility, especially the Honda units. You could still use a surge protector/RCBO with the generator but it is not a required item.

@@PowerEquipmentDirect Thanks for the reply. It does mention it very briefly in the manual, but doesn't say what instance I should use one for and I've never seen anyone else use one. Also, do I need to earth it somehow?
