Med School Insiders could you do a video about different types of cardiology?
@KarolineLovesArcane5 жыл бұрын
Actually I can postively do that turn off notifications or simply turn off my phone. However, since I'm getting an iPad and apple pencil this upcoming week I'll have to do the same. And that's genius idea prioritize your distractions by order. I'm always at home since I'm a college student I'm mostly off on Monday and Tuesdays. I'm student with a disability so I have like 3 classes towards end of the week. So I may have more time to find place to study and use headphones and Nosli (extension on chrome web store) to keep myself productive, and use Self Control (MacOS app) to block websites I tend to go on.

With the 25 5 25 5 thing how do you keep concentration in the second and third one? As it feels like the first one is always not too bad with concentration going around 15-20 minutes in then the second it’s like 5-10 minutes. How can you stop this from happening?

1. Admit you have a problem, and apply the 80/20 rule. Make a list of your distractions (around 20) and.... 2. Take the top 5 distractions and enforce systems to reduce temptations - block notifications, etc 3. Environmental modifications - noise levels, company or alone - limit distractions, keep phone away, conductive to extended periods of work, comfort, good desk, outlet for laptop, respect of your work from others, prevent interruptions 4. Prioritise working solo over group work - keep groups small (min 2 Others), keep for difficult concepts where help is needed. 5. Use the Pomodoro technique - acutely forces focus, pacing for extended work, builds focus muscle 6. Use psychology to your advantage - Pavlovian/classical conditioning, make a routine for your subconscious, study playlist (instrumental only) 7. Reprioritise delayed benefit activities - exercise, healthy food, *_sleep_* , taking actual breaks, Parkinson's Law.

Hi! Can you also make a video focusing on learning how to prioritize Delayed-Benefit activities? I’ve always wanted to be at a more stable weight/have healthier coping mechanisms (especially because I stress eat a lot) but ever since I entered med school, i have felt like everything’s so overwhelming and I need to sacrifice sleep, exercise and eating healthy to compensate for the stress. After watching this vid, it made me realize that it shouldn’t have to be that way and that studying efficiently + alotting time for exercise and choosing to be healthier can be done. Thank you, Doc!

What helped with me was making a second account on my laptop. As you can probably tell, I am on my study account right now. This was something I found sceptical at first, but I have actually been much less distracted while doing so. I have the studying mindset, and I don't allow myself to go on KZbin, and if you really struggle with this, then you can block entertainment apps. Turning off your phone also helped me out a lot

To sum this all up, in order to effectively study is you want to work in an environment where you can keep your phone away as much you can, do not sit near a door where people comes in, and never ever study close to a television. Except if you live in a house with many televisions, or not I suggest pulling the plug or put the remotes somewhere. Students needs a study space where they're not distracted and make sure to inform others that you need to study is vital, most definitely do that and they won't bother you until you've done your studying. Since social media apps and the internet can be distracting, use tools to help block apps, or websites so you can focus. If people uses a tablet turn off notifications, log out of social media apps or websites or put on do not disturb mode. For MacOS I suggest Self Control, or keepmeout (website it's free on web/internet) they blacklist or whitelists websites from accessing until you're done studying or doing homework. Also having quality time like exercising as you mention, Jubbal is not waste of time. Because like Finland make quality time for your self, and also exercise helps keep your mind off from unnecessary thoughts including studying. Overall, find yourself a study space you'll not be distracted, turn off your phone, log out from websites or social media and websites, or turn off the wi-fi or cellular data from your phone. Use useful app tools to block apps or websites from distracting you, and please don't vigorously work without rest. There's always reason why Finland is #1 for less standardized tests is making time for things that are worth your time, you enjoy, and makes you feel good. So balance personal self care and quality time with studying.
