Yesssss. This is what I've started doing recently - not full covers exactly, i usually look for the original drums of the song as the backbone and move from there - i don't want to get bogged down on programming metal drums for three days before i can start on the fun stuff.

Thank you So much Adam, my band and I just came back from a discouraging 3rd recording of our breakout song, and things were just not working. drums are comlicated, vocals are just not up to par, and the band is getting uninspired, the concept of "stealing music" really spoke to me and i think because of this, our band will start sounding professional.

Honestly I still do it every once in a while to learn new skills and techniques. If you want to challenge yourself a little more, you can do “what if X produced Y” type ideas and push yourself that way. Cheers 🤘
