Get a plastic shoebox, or any rectangular storage basket from dollar tree would work. and a pool noodle from dollar tree. Cut pool noodle and place on the long sides of the box, now you can place your cup between the pool noodles. Keeps your cup in place while you are trying to get the decal on evenly

So everyone, just an afterthought, or something I just learned as well since we just started making these 2 weeks ago, mod podge the cup after and will seal and keep laminate from peeling and protect the image.
@khaotickrafter4 жыл бұрын
I have washed the cups and they have been fine, I’ve heard from others mod podge will seal it longer though, just passing on the info. folks
@buddysmith70804 жыл бұрын
Mod podge is not food safe. I would make sure you drink from the lid and not directly from the edge of the cup.
@khaotickrafter4 жыл бұрын
I do not or have not used mod podge to seal my cups. As I stated above I have hand washed them a bunch with no problems. I advise customers to hand wash, no dishwasher, and don’t leave sitting in a sink full of water. If they follow that the cup should last a long time. I have seen others say they mod podge to prevent laminate from peeling. And that after mod podge cures for 28 days it is safe. I do not know about that, I will look at the mod podge my wife has for her projects myself when I her home to see if food grade safe or not, but I was just passing info. I had seen from others if anyone was having peeling issues. But thank you for sharing that, I will def be looking into that and if not food safe I will remove the information!
@araceliramirez62994 жыл бұрын
Their is modge podge that is food safe and also polycrylic. I saw these items being mentioned and used on another channel, makers gonna make. The cure time is 28 days I believe. I hope this helps a bit.

As for the mugs, they have to be coated with a coating, u can buy stuff to do it yourself, which I have tried, but find it easier to just order the sublimatable mugs, less hassle in having to apply a coat perfectly for the sub to come out right! U can generally find the mugs with coating already for between $1 to 1.50 usd.

Let me see if I understood correctly. You cut the laminate sheet, permanent vinyl and printed sublimation sheet with the cup template. You laminated the vinyl first, and then you sublimated on the laminated vinyl. After that, you wrapped your cup with the vinyl like any other decal...Is that right? I know you don’t have to seal the outside, but do you prep the cup with anything to prevent the decal from coming off? (maybe you said it, but I didn’t catch it) thank you for the tutorial!
@khaotickrafter4 жыл бұрын
Nancy, you are correct, and did not miss any steps. I do not pretreat with anything, and make sure cups sit 24 hours and tell customers hand wash only, I haven’t had any issues, although I also have heard others sealing with epoxy or mod podge, key is making sure everything is adhered , No overhanging pieces or loose spot

@khaotickrafter4 жыл бұрын
Hello, thanks for watching, first off double check your heat press if possible to see if presses hotter than readout says, secondly if seems mainly on edges then use a laminate bigger then the template, the laminate seems to protect the vinyl somewhat from the heat, so I generally have just been using full laminate sheet and cutting edges away after pressing, try that and see if that resolves your issues

Not sure if is the bland of the vinyl or the brand of the laminating sheet, but that should not matter because its laminating sheet and the vinyl is permanent like the oracal 651. What am I doing wrong?

From my experience I have tried this process with 3 mil and 5 mil thickness thermal laminating sheets, so first thing is need to be thermal laminating sheets the self stick adhesive pouches I don’t think work. If your are using thermal I have tried this with 5 mil thermal sheets and they do not stick, I do not know if it is because they are thicker, but the 3 mil ones I’ve never had an issue with, my wife bought home a pack of 5 mil and 3 different cups they wouldn’t stick, drive me crazy til I realized they were thicker, that is the only thing I can think of, hope it helps!

Can this template be used on a Cricut Explorer 2 and how do you make the image bend and fit into the template ?
@khaotickrafter2 жыл бұрын
Yes it can, although it is a little tougher with cricut than silhouette, I made another video to show other ways to set up your image in silhouette if drag and drop doesn’t work, the ideas here can be done in cricut as well, like pattern fill for example. Check this out and see if it helps. kzbin.info/www/bejne/eGfTgX-ki8Rnq8U

I wonder if you can sub on glossy oracle 651 and skip the laminate? Have you tried? I have a ton of 651 glossy I wonder if that could be laminated also? Or if you could even skip the laminate and sub straight on it...
@khaotickrafter4 жыл бұрын
U can sub to oracal matte and glossy, I’ve only done it for cutting boards where the sub goes through the front and looks faded but looks vivid on the sticky side, maybe less time and will look vibrant on the non-sticky side. But the image holds really nice in the laminate which is the main reason for the laminate, other than cutting boards I haven’t tried subbing on the straight vinyl, but if u watch the cutting board video I made or any out there and see subbing to vinyl

How do we use this template in Design Space? Purchase it but can’t get my image to fit the dimensions of the template with the curve etc
@khaotickrafter2 жыл бұрын
So if you open the svg file ( chrome/edge html file) it should open to correct size. You probably have to rotate your template 90 degrees once u set up your image, and I believe it is too big for cricut to do print and cut, but u can print the template and cut by hand, which isn’t too tough as it is a easy design, if u still continue to have problems contact me through Etsy and I can send some screen shots to further explain.

Thank you for the video. I have a question.... I am looking into doing Sublimation- Is there a specific ink or printer needed?
@khaotickrafter4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching! Yes sublimation requires sublimation ink, and a printer designated specifically for sublimation. You can buy a sublimation printer from person or sawgrass already set up for sublimation, or buy an epson eco-tank and convert it for sublimation. For conversion ideas check-out Facebook group Sublimation Cove, or KZbin, I will have a recommendations page coming soon with links to various different machines and supplies I myself specifically use and can vouch for, in the meantime let me know if I can answer anymore questions and check out the ones I listed

Would you get the same result if you just sprayed the coffee cup with something first and sublimated?
@khaotickrafter4 жыл бұрын
You would have to have some type of poly based spray for the sublimation ink to adhere to, so I’d imagine if they make a spray it would be easier, but being these are plastic cups I don’t know how you would sub the image to the cup if you had a spray, highly doubt these would hold up to a mug press. And there are surely easier, and probably better methods of doing this, this is just one way I found to do it and shared the info and technique. It’s a nice way to spice up a dollar tree cup and a cheap way to practice subbing and wrapping cups

How do you get them to stay on the cups. I tried what you did but they peel off around the edges.
@khaotickrafter Жыл бұрын
The best way I have found to keep them from peeling is hand wash and not leave sitting in sink or liquid for any period of time, these are best used for like kids parties and things of that nature in my opinion

How do you make stickers with you left over Laminate sheet, if you don’t mind me asking.
@khaotickrafter3 жыл бұрын
I don’t mind at all, let me just preface this by stating that I’m not saying this is the best way to make stickers, it is just a way that you could, especially at the time I made this video I was playing around with the laminate and a lot of things…. Anyhow, same idea as doing the cups, you would just print as stickers instead of a cup template. Honestly though there are far better ways to make stickers. You could do on the vinyl without the laminate, but I haven’t really played too much with subbing directly to vinyl. I have bought several different vinyls and sticker sheets and am doing a video in the next couple weeks showing various ways to make stickers and how each turn out, as I’ve had a lot of sticker questions and never did get to play with them as I had planned.
