Thanks for sharing your experience. I'll add some tips. Research the anemone first, what ocean is it from? What will be the size of the anemone 3-4 years down the line? Be careful with high flow, bubble tips can be easily damaged as newer equipment has become so powerful it's easy to overdo it. Educate yourself of colored anemone's for sale (dyed). If you want to host the anemone, is your potential host even from the same ocean? I'd personally wait at least 6 months minimum on a brand new setup. As a beginner you need to get your routine down and push for stability over time, not just one or two zero number readings. Patience, research, and learning is part of the hobby and will add to your enjoyment, rushing in may be gratifying at first, but is not a good habit to get into, you will learn this over time. If this is your very first tank, unless you are rich, you will probably be fiddling a lot and adding/swapping equipment etc. Take it easy on adding livestock, enjoy the process. Oh, don't feed once a week at first. Wait a few weeks, let the organism settle then feed sparingly once a month, very small pieces. If the anemone regurgitates, it's too big of a piece, wait a few days and try again with something much smaller or a powdered alternative... Good luck! As a beginner, welcome and enjoy your new hobby. Sorry for writing a book in the comment, I'm not online very often...

would it be a good idea to add an anemone first, before coral? that way they can get settled and you can work around them.
@TheCoralReefTalk11 ай бұрын
That would be one way to see where they establish themselves in the tank for sure. But if their environment changes later on like water flow etc then they can decide to move. However if they are really happy they can stay in one place for a while. But yeah you could definitely do that.

I have a tiny baby anemone a friend gave me because hers was splitting like crazy. every time I bought one it’d end up in the wave maker, so I haven’t bothered wasting money on one in years, but It’s been a few months now and it’s settled into one spot so I’m wondering when it’ll be large enough to start splitting off into little babies of its own to give to other friends in the hobby? Thanks!
@THEFIFTHDIMENTION Жыл бұрын
They will split at any time or some dont split at all. Some split so often that they end up with little clones each time. There is no telling. cover your wavemakes so they dont die.....

So you didn't learn from your mistake the first time and didn't cover the WaveMaker and still managed to get another one and suspected a different result...

@TheCoralReefTalk2 жыл бұрын
Looking at some of the specs for that light. It seems like it could be ok as it looks to get 220 par at 6inches and 100 par at 21in deep, However I have seen that most people are recommending two of them, depending on your tank size. I am a fan of the Core XP LED from aquatic life and hm electronics pretty comparable in price and its definitely more than enough.

Hi, congratulations for the videos. I'm also using your same led lights (2 units), the aquarium has been running for a year now but it has had various problems (dino and cyan) and now even the soft corals are struggling. ICP and DOM tests always ok but little growth if not regression. I'm having trouble getting the healthy green patina on the glass. I was wondering if you could share your ceiling light QR set with me to compare with mine. Thank you

What causes anemones to lose there stickiness?
@TheCoralReefTalk2 жыл бұрын
In what situation? Sometimes they decide to move around to find a better location and flow.
@cochisestar31202 жыл бұрын
@@TheCoralReefTalk I've had several reefs with thriving corals even sps. But when I get anemone they get to the point they won't eat and there stickiness goes away so there food is gone with the flow. They last a while but just get smaller and smaller until they just go.
@TheCoralReefTalk2 жыл бұрын
@@cochisestar3120 That's a tough one. I went through that a couple times years ago when I had a 75gallon. It could be a lighting issue either not enough or to much possibly. I did see a post that talked about if the anemone is fighting something off or maybe has a rip in the foot, that it's focusing it's energy there and may loose stickiness.

Did not see any clowns hosting your Anemone...have they not done it?
@shipmate357711 ай бұрын
I recommend against these things. They can be fun, but 90% of the time, they can be annoying - sting your other corals, get into filtration, split quickly and slow tank over a tank. If you keep anything but soft corals, the anenome will kill them.
