Hi Alex, great question! Your hair needs to be at least the length of a grain of rice in order for the paste to grab the hair, you also just want to make sure you're pressing firmly when you're applying the paste in the opposite direction of hair growth, and that you're flicking the paste back in the direction of hair growth while holding the skin firmly with your other hand - you want to make sure you flick flat over the skin, not up!
