Larry's story about the guy crying about going to a camp around people facing decades or even life in medium to high level hellhole penitentiaries reminded me of the one time I did a short bid of 8 months in county jail as a stupid 19-20 year old punk kid. I remember sitting in a jam packed bullpen cell after one of my many trips to court while I was still unsentenced. I was sitting there with guys facing 5, 10, 20, and even higher sentences, thanking god that I was only facing a year or two max. There was one guy-- he was like mid 30's yuppie type white dude --literally weeping, holding his head in his hands _sobbing!_ I felt bad for him, and also didn't want him to get beat down for pissing off other inmates with his crying. Turned out he had been busted over that weekend for I think it was a third DUI and the judge gave hime 10 days in county before he would get a PTA (promise to appear, so release without a bond on his own recognizance) dude was openly sobbing for 10 days... I told him to shut the fuck up and not tell anyone else about this. I told him to say he just found out a family member died, if pressed. SMH

When I was a kid in Anchorage Alaska... I had a friend named Dominic D'Amato who's father and mother... plus grandfather and grandmother used to invite my family over to eat. His grandfather made great pasta and lasagna. I was over talking to him as a kid... and he started to tell me about himself. He was cooking pasta and started to tell me about what he did in Chicago. I was 13... and he told me that he was Al Capone's Chef. I'm standing there listening to the guy who cooked Al Capone's meals. I told him they had a song out by Paper Lace called "The Night Chicago Died". He wanted to hear it... so I went home and got my K-tell record... and brought it over for him to listen to it. He was so happy as he listened to it. Now I'm 60... and your memories of Al Capones cell... brings back these memories from when I was a kid. I'm glad you're out and doing well. Dominic's father was a country western singer and working with my father. He told the guys at the United Lumber yard... that He had worked with many of the country western stars. No one believed him until he brought pictures with Roy Clark and Buck Owens. I'm pretty sure he had pictures with Glen Campbell as well. Alcohol got in the way of his career unfortunately.

@madezra64
@madezra64 Жыл бұрын
@@protipskiptoendofvideoandr286 Literally the three golden rules of doing time right there. I think a lot of people underestimate the debt and staying out of peoples business part though. Not snitching is common knowledge among the whole population of the world damn near, but not going into debt and staying out of others business? Not so much. I don't know how many good dudes I saw get removed from the yard because they spiraled into debt or got in too deep with certain people and have to put in work. The last one got me unfortunately. My job was to help lead the PFT classes throughout the week for others heading to Fire Camp (California State Prison thing) and get ready for Fire Fighter Training. I had great cardio, was young, and I wasn't a hot head, so I gained a lot of respect helping a lot of people of all races get into better shape and ready to pass the actual PFT & FFT courses for camp. This got me close with all the key holders on the yard. They appreciated my hustle of working out and getting along with everyone, specifically the white reps (my reps, I am white) were happy I was making the whites look good by constantly training and showing healthy discipline. Unfortunately, this ended up getting me way to involved with yard politics... I was young and smart and in-shape, a prime candidate to put in actual work. So I get close to paroling and word gets out I don't have my "stripes" yet. Well sure enough three of the head white boys come up to the honor dorm I am in and tell me I need to handle some business on yard tomorrow even though I had 87 days till I parole. For context it takes up to 6 months to a year for a 115 to even be CONSIDERED to be dropped of your jacket. Which meant I would not go home as planned. It also would have affected my third-time (California - reduction of time to serve cause of over crowding). It most likely would have instantly put me back up to my half time date, PLUS the time removed for the actual infraction. Simply put, I was going home for at least another year, and that's IF we end up not hurting the guy. It's very easy to get an SBI or GBI charge for doing a removal, which is an entirely new charge in itself. Gonna need an attorney, and gonna be going to court and almost certainly getting time added consecutively, PLUS they will max you out on your original term. I had a 4 year term but paroled 18 months in thanks to third-time and other state mandates protecting non-violent criminals for doing too much time. It is very likely I would have had to do the remainder of those 4 years and THEN serve whatever charge I got waiting after which is almost certainly gonna be a Violent Felony strike which means NO HALF-TIME, NO THIRD-TIME. You do AT LEAST 80% before you are CONSIDERED an opportunity to parole. So yea... I fucking rolled it up the morning I was supposed to help get this dude pretending to be American Indian. I did NOT snitch. What got me off the yard and into non-disciplinary segregation was telling the cops who I was supposed to attack. Obviously, they thought I was gonna give them names of others involved but I respectfully declined. Not my mentality. I only wanted to make sure the guy was safe and my ass was heading home. The Sargeant didn't exactly like me on this yard because I was so young but he told the dude I was supposed to remove that he should thank me, because it was gonna be bad for him... The dude's face was already smashed in and fractured from the previous yard he got removed from just a few weeks prior. He hadn't even HEALED YET! The Sargeant told me flat out if I had laid a finger on this guy he would've charged me at least a GBI and that I wouldn't be going home for a VERY long time, he would've personally made sure of it he said. He thanked me for doing the right thing and wished me luck at committee in Ad-Seg. Said he would be recommending non-disciplinary segregation (this is a good thing), and he did.

Some of this material applied to me last year when I spent a month in minimum security. It began with five days of solitary confinement. Very important to get along with one's fellow inmates. I saw a meltdown or two and guards intervened aggressively. The difference is that when I was there it was inappropriate to ask why people were locked up; that was private. So I didn't.

Holy shit brother, you had 5k subs about a week ago. Now look at ya!! My father was career too, ended up with a 20y bid. I grew up visiting nearly every state joint in Illinois. It scared me straight, never wanted to do a day behind bars. Funny story, I ended up meeting up with some guys on motorcycles. Ended up befriending one man and his wife. And I swear to god, this man was warden of security for a medium state joint that my father was currently at. During this time, the warden and his wife would still ride with me, and I was friends with their children. But I could not go to their house, their kids could come hang out at my place. But when we rode we would just meet up in public. Now that he’s out, the warden has retired and I can now visit him at his house. They have a beautiful family and the warden is a good man.
