Well-fitting acrylic beanie caps DO keep your ears warm. Keep your bag halfway across your head or at least up over the bottom half of your nose (puts warm breath into your bag). Important video for newbie campers. 🎉

Yep you're right, sleeping bags are awesome! Used them in the military in my rack, and it used to get very cold on the ships I was stationed on. Nice video, be safe out there!

Facts 💯 I am a whistleblower investigator living in a tent in Vermont winters. It's well insulated but I have a cot, couch cushions with a sleeping bag under me, and a subzero temps sleeping bag on me. Once we hit the teens I have synthetic wool blankets for extra warmth. Best warm.socks are the dollar trees floody socks. Or good wool socks. Gloves, too.

I have been doing using sleeping bags since I started vanlife. I now use one sleeping bad as cover for my bed foam. A thin blanket inside another sleeping bag along with a beanie kept me warm in 29° weather.

😁 It works great, right! 🚐 keeping a cozy blanket inside the sleeping is so nice too. 👍 #siennasquad

Hey there! New here. Great pointers! I too have a beanie, and I like to have a hoodie of some kind as an alternative. I’ve learned that if my feet or my nose get cold, that’s when it’s hard to sleep. I have some face masks that I just put over my nose, LOL. Stay warm!
@DiasFrugalLife2 ай бұрын
@@Out_GalliVANtin thank you! 😊 I have to have the top of my head and nose covered to be comfortable and be able to sleep 😴. Makes such a difference for me. My body tucked in the sleeping bad gets warm eventually lol

SOLID tips. Back in the 90s, living in Alaska, I moved from a backpack and tent into a Chevy van (which I considered a very fancy tent). I had two sleeping bags (and a vapor barrier liner): a fall down-filled mummy bag, and a summer rectangular bag. With the mummy inside the summer bag I had a winter bag. Worked well year-round, but... there was one morning one winter, even though I had cinched the mummy bag up 'til I had no more than a breathing hole, I woke up with just a spot of frostbite on the tip of my nose. Good memory. Thanks for the video!

I agree. I car camp 4 seasons. I used a wool duvet, but i carry a sleeping bag, too. I wear thermal underware inc longjons, a wool beanie and bed socks, and a marino wool neck warmer as well.

I was camping once with a 45 deg bag layered inside a 30 deg bag. It unexpectedly got down to -17f and I shivered all night. I got myself a Wiggy’s -60 deg bag. Pretty much ready for anything.

Thanks for telling us. If I ever have to live in a van, I'd want to do it low maintenance, without a lot of moving parts. I'd probably eat salads and sandwiches and fresh fruit, along with the occasional hot meal at a restaurant. It looks like too many moving parts to set up rice cookers and things like that.

You’re welcome, An! I do enjoy having gadgets but usually keep my van very simple.

😂“Fresh fruit” in the winter? Good luck.
@ConservativeLivingАй бұрын
@fu9793 There are so many fruits that ripen in the winter. And even if a particular fruit doesn't ripen where you're at, they can be shipped from a warmer climate.

A propane Mr Heater wave 3. Will heat up your van or car, no electricty needed. Sleeping bag is for sleeping and a wave 3 is when your not.
@someguy-xi2xq2 ай бұрын
be careful with propane. The exhaust is toxic. carbon monoxide. youd have to crack a window. And get a monoxide detector.
