Do this... but practice against palm strikes. No gloves needed. Much more realistic scenario now-a-days too. As circuses like Power Slap gain in mainstream popularity, you will see a rise in these kinds of attacks vs traditional punches.

As a student of Harold Howard long ago, I was also taught if a punch is coming, and it's going to land on the face for whatever reason, tilt your head DOWN. His fist will hit the top of your head injuring him (hopefully more than you)and very likely stop his attack.
