I remember feeling so awkward talking to my camera when I first started on KZbin! It was especially weird that I wasn’t even talking to anyone behind the camera either because I didn’t have an audience yet! I think it gets easier as you grow your audience and form a connection with your viewers 😊❤️

Yes, that's my experience. I'm not the most charismatic on camera I know, but I've never been afraid of speaking and I know my material. (Ron Howard once said, "Confidence is preparation in action," and I think that's a cool motto!) But yes, the more I do this the slicker it gets.

Sunny! I tuned in to your weekly video, and literally spilled my morning coffee! Thanks so much for the shout out! What a surprise; you made my day. Thanks in advance to all of the #sunnysquad as well for the support! And yes, you are so right. Every single time I push 'record' and tell my story to the camera, it gets easier and better. At least it feels that way. We are all our own greatest critics, and I think that if I can actually appreciate watching my own video, others will too. Thanks for the tips. Another super-helpful video. My new mantra: breathe, smile, pause before restarting.

Regarding what my biggest takeaway is from this video, it is the notion of stopping between thoughts to look down at your notes instead of trying to say everything in long sections and also to help you keep your thoughts from straying (which I can do very easily as a dominant Introverted Intuitor personality type). THIS tip is really going to help me because I've noticed that I sometimes get stuck and lose my train of thought if I start talking too long. I LOVE this technique and I think it will really help me. Thank you!

When I started my first channel, I remember speaking so softly and being not so comfortable. But a few videos later, I was fine. I used to be so uncomfortable on camera. I have watched some of the videos I made a couple of months ago and I feel uncomfortable just by watching it. When you talked about practice makes perfect and using your hands, it does help. Once I learned to use my hands, smile, and laugh if it’s funny, that’s how I learned to relax. Please make more videos like this. It’s great for beginners. Thank you for the great tips. 🙏🏾😘

Biggest takeaway for me treating the camera like a mirror. The scripting and taking breaks in between filming has helped me out tremendously. There have been so many times where I have "tried to be a hero" and do it from memory and it either causes me to rush through the filming and/or cause me to forget something entirely. Thanks for making this! Recently subscribed.

My cameraman used to intimidate me and I'd get flustered. He wanted me to get it perfect on the first try. I finally told him if he hired a Hollywood actor there would be multiple takes. Your comments about hand gestures strikes home for me. My wife doesn't usually watch my videos, but recently she did watch one, looks at me and says "you're very Italian"... which of course had me all sorts of self-conscious about how I'm using my hands in my videos. I've started keeping one hand in my pocket as I film now, but still gesture with the other. I switch them during the video and occasionally break out a 2 handed gesture. Good tips, thanks as always Sunny.

Camera presence is such a hard thing to master. I started with my instagram stories and slowly worked my way up to finally feeling comfortable enough to start my channel. I love your videos! I'm not the best on camera, I know, but I feel confident with my material. Ron Howard once said "Confidence is preparation in action" and I think that's a good motto! It involves visualising your presence expanding to fill the room and it's something I used a lot!

I was told my whole life that I was "fat, ugly and stupid and I believed that. Forever. Then, in the last year I began to settle into myself. I'm not a pretty little girl like it seems that 99.9% of the females KZbinrs are. I'm a biggo butch lesbian and, instead of trying to look like someone else (to make my mother happy), I finally began to look like me. My hair and my clothing, the more they changed, the more my self-confidence grew! Today, I feel so much more at ease presenting myself to my audience. These tips are gold! Thank you for another great video, Sunny. I loved the example you did showing how choppy editing is when you try to make cuts to run-on sentences. I'm constantly having to remind myself to pause in between takes, and to stop glancing down at my notes as I say the last few words during a take. One thing I did that really helped me a lot was instead of outlining my scripts, I've started writing them out completely. I never end up actually reading the script word for word, but having all of my thoughts right there makes me feel a lot more comfortable. That's so helpful. I'm about to film two videos, and I'll try to apply your tips! One major point for my insecurity is that I film videos in English (which isn't my mother tongue), and I'm always so worried to make a terrible mistake and so I don't sound natural when I'm talking. My level is C1 but knowing that doesn't help my confidence. My sister consistently says to me: "we all make mistakes even in our mother tongue, don't worry that much", but it's so hard! And the thing is: when I'm talking to a friend in English, I don't feel so insecure. I don't go out of breath or talk unnaturally. Thank you so much for your tips. Love your channel. xx

Really great tips, Sunny! I'm a new KZbinr and can relate to a lot of the things that you've shared. I remember that when I first started my KZbin channel, I was so nervous on camera, trying to memorize my entire video script and repeating my whole video shoot whenever I made a mistake while talking on camera. It didn't seem natural at all. And it took me forever to complete recording just the footage for just one KZbin video. Now, I just have some dot points and speak to the camera as if I was explaining to somebody that is standing in front of me. That works well for me. But of course I still keep on learning how to improve myself on camera.
@missmatti4 жыл бұрын
This must be one of the best videos on how to be confident on camera! When I started out it was soo uncomfortable to the degree that I actually sometimes ended up crying of frustration. What I have learnt is that it's better to cry & get back to the camera if you need to, than to hold in your emotion & pretend that you are not upset. Laughing is also another good thing to do when things are not going your way. That way you relax so that you can be fully present on camera. I am currently re-reading Patsy Rodenburg's book Presence (highly recommend it to all of you), and she goes through posture first, then the breath and then the voice. It can be worth keeping that order in mind. I used to try to adjust my voice without adjusting breath & posture and it just doesn't work!. A little great tip that I learnt to open up your throat so that you can speak with your natural voice (if you discover your speak is unnatural, too fast, too quiet etc) is think of a jawn and you most likely will jawn... I didn't know before why I was jawning after doing voice exercises but I am so happy to learn it's a good sign! 😉

Hey, Sunny. Loved this video as it helped me to iron out some areas for my own KZbin videos that I do. I found your point about breaking down the video in sections the most helpful (do one part, take 2-3-sec. break, and then go onto next part). I do my videos all in one cut, but now realizing I can edit and make it flow nicer is a brilliant tactic/tip that I will begin applying. Most of my videos come from downloading my Facebook lives and putting them onto my KZbin channel, but I have recently begun recording them separately instead and uploading these. Grateful that you continue to share your expertise! Keep Shining, Sunny.

This video hit home for me. I remember my first video I filmed I was sooooo nervous I needed a glass of wine just to get through it. 🤣 Imagine being nervous to talk to your phone with no one else around! These tips were just what I needed to fine tune my speaking skills. Thank you!

👋Thanks so much Sunny. ❤ This video was super helpful. When I first started my channel I did faceless videos because I felt so awkward in front of the camera. Now after a couple of years of doing that I feel like those videos didn't help me to grow a strong channel community. So I've been doing more and more videos showing my face, but it is harder than one might think to talk to a camera. So thanks so much for your advice and tips. I've only recently found out about your channel and now I've been beige watching your content and it's really been helpful. Thanks again! -Stacy🙂

Been making videos for my real estate business and I'm definitely going to be coming back to rewatch this as a reminder, and after watching some of your content, I think starting a youtube channel might be in my future! Thanks so much, you're the best.

I just filmed myself last night with this same intention - to practice and self-evaluate the results. Definitely have work to do but it still felt great to practice and I know I’m on the right track. THEN... Sunny posts this video this morning?! Talk about alignment! Whoop 🙌 Thank you so very much Sunny - I really appreciate this morning boost and insight 😁

I used to feel uncomfortable on camera back then when I just started KZbin. But great tips, I’ll try them out

Perfect timing! Since starting KZbin for Bosses and being committed to sharing my work thru my channel, I have been looking to improve my videos. I have been posting for less than 2 months and I already look back at previous videos and wonder how I was able to post them...lol but we all start somewhere!

Oh man I got a teleprompter, it makes editing a lot easier! But I wonder if it makes things much less natural, don't know. Filming is such a pain for me cause I don't have good light, so I had to get lights too, it just feels like a huge set up. But I'm keeping on keeping with it and filming my wine tips in batches! Thanks Sunny!

Ah, you're so good and authentic. I'm just starting out, thanks for all the great tips, still feeling self-conscious in front of the camera.

I have only just started on this KZbin journey so these tips are great. I see that I have already put my foot in it but onwards and upwards. Thanks again

I really needed this! I find it so weird presenting on camera, and often um and ah, loose track of my message, and sound uncomfortable etc, and yet I'm totally at ease when doing the same for fun for friends and family... I will make a note of these points and see if it helps! Esp the note taking part! Thanks Sunny! 💙

I’m on my 3rd video. 😅 it’s rough. I’m doing a video every other week. After downloading your checklist, I’m going to do one every Friday. Your definitely one of my mentors on this venture. Thanks. 🙏🏾

I’ve been working on becoming more comfortable and confident on camera. Thank you so much for making this video!! I need to work on slowing down. Sometimes when I get nervous I just blab. 😂 You are so calm and yourself. Watching you helps me gain that confidence to just be myself as well.

Haha! Slob kabab! I recently got a few comments on my channel suggesting that I look into the camera. I'm really trying to get better and tried it. It was awkward, but the videos looked much better and I got great feedback!
