I used to struggle with this a lot when I was a bit younger, but later as I grew older I realized that I simply don't need to try or do anything, and since then I no longer worry about it. Now whenever I'm with relatives or any group of people where I find that we seem to have no common interests, I have no problem sitting silent through the event - much more pleasant and easier than awkwardly trying to mingle.
@TisOnlyAScratch4 жыл бұрын
Wish other people I'm with share this. Usually I'm asked why I'm so quiet and if I'm ok. In their defense, I ask the quiet person for his/her opinion and ensure s/he's ok. When I'm quiet, most people think I'm angry, sad, or bored when I'm really just watching or observing, interested in what's happening in front of me without the need to participate. Interestingly enough, when I'm actually A, S, or B, nobody seems to care then someone gets upset when I tune out into my phone in order to keep the peace.

A positive way I would be open to that but please I am done spending money on him Update: this guy is in jail looking at 9 years he attacked his roommate who been letting him live rent free 3 years, such an ungrateful being he deserves prison.

Hello, I tried to to summarize the video Here are the 4 points he talked about. 1 ) You wouldn't know the things you have in common. " ask more questions " 2 ) Connect not based on similar interests but rather on the similar situation " event, weather, travelling same place " 3 ) Connect on shared values " Business, life, mindset " 4 ) Invest in them, be excited about the things the person in front you interested in.

You can talk about memories from your old school? Even if you weren't in the same friend groups or class, you can still talk about teachers, classmates, share different memories about all the stuff happening in class and laugh about that together. Share old interests like "I used to be so interested in xxx because xxx classmate got me into it, now I'm like "eww what is this"" or smth

Tasty Toast i don’t think I am the right person to ask. But maybe just be open minded for things to talk about. You don’t have to have them in common to talk about them.
@starshot5172 Жыл бұрын
I have something to add: Try finding out why they are passionate or so interested by this topic, without trying to change them in any way. Just hearing why they might find something meaningful can make you resonate with them more. If you have something to add, first compliment them, regardless what their plan is, then ask a critical question, rather than expressing your opinion about it. A question should be as objective as you can make it. Practice facial expression if you have a hard time making and reading expressions that fit the situation.

My ex told the judge that we have nothing in common. He thinks that is weird. Ummm, it’s very typical for men and women to have things not in common. We actually do have stuff in common, but he choose to look past them all. When he asked me to list things that we have in common, and I did, he would make excuses like, “22 million other people do that or feel that way.”

There's something specific or a specific level that he wants to connect. He wants "special" connection especially with someone he's married to. "Common", or "Ordinary" is disregarded as inconsequential, and boring. It's not really connection at all. "We both walk, and talk, and go to work, and like to watch a movie sometimes" is very basic. There are 100 girls a day that can give me a boner, and how many of them do I want to marry? Nearly zero. Anyhow, I find his comment funny, and relatable. I am sorry you are divorced though.

I always thought that being intrested in a person is not genuine if you are not caring about their interest because that doesnt interest you. So i always thought i was a bad and egoistic person. But hearing what your take was on what it means to be intrested in a person with no common grounds and adding the fact that commication is a way to connect and connections are build on understanding. And understanding is mostly of all being able to relate in a way. I see now that i am intrested in a person when i try to connect tho we have no common grounds but i do connect with how they feel about a certain interest of theirs that i dont have to care about. And if i do than thats even better.

Since the time I was in high school, which literally a quarter century ago, I've had friends that don't necessarily resonate with me. LOL! Years later, I remain to question WHY we're still friends. We share very little in common. This especially applies to my friend, Breanna. I don't necessarily want to burn bridges with her, especially since she latched onto me as a friend, 20 years ago. Breanna's intentions are good. She buys me presents and I reciprocate for birthdays and holidays. However, it's unnecessary because it feels like I'm obligated to do it. Now that she has my cell phone number, she randomly texts me about the dumbest things. Considering that we're in our early 40's, Breanna acts like the stereotypical Incel. There's nothing wrong with her being a fan of Marvel Superhero characters. I love watching Anime, Horror, especially since I'm a Horror author, listening to music, etc. At the same time, I know how to assimilate with OLDER and more mature adults. BTW: Breanna has a Masters in English and knows how to clean up in sells. Yesterday, I suggested that she try joining Writing groups and even watch parties near her neighborhood or something. It sounds like I'm being mean to Breanna, but we don't live in the same state anymore and our hobbies, interests, views, and LIFESTYLES are polar opposites. Also, she needs to grow up and realize that I have a busy life playing caregiver to sick and disabled family members, including my own mother. Even though Breanna has a good-paying job, she's careless and immature, especially when she wastes my time texting me about how she lost the mates to her gloves and that she's eating ice cream. LOL! Those are childish traits for a 41-year-woman with a Masters in English. LOL! Just saying.

Hey, I wanted some advice I’ve been seeing someone for almost 3 months it’s felt like cloud 9 I’ve had obstacles cause of my commitment issues considering my past and anxiety around letting people in. It was going well and last we we had a moment where we were talking about our draining careers and this week my partner tells me that he felt that we were distant and fun had gonna cause he started to overthink and realised we don’t have anything in common- I was really hurt by this considering he told me few weeks ago he saw future with me and wanted me to meet his friends and family soon. He concluded that we need to see how we get on even as friends romantically l, cause he feels that romantically and physically personality were compatible but similar things were very different. He said that it’s become a bit intense cause we’re upset over something like this. He said we’re young and we should be doing fun things like going to arcade and enjoying ourselves. I don’t know what to do but I don’t know if this means what he actually means or if he changed his mind about having a commitment and got bored of how stagnant it got (which is normal and couple go through, even my parents have nothing in common) I really don’t know he basically said I’d we didn’t have all those other things and we were just friends would we be friends …
