I moved across the country and had to find all new doctors. Before I went for my first appointment, I made up a sheet (or several) that included a list of all medications, a list of conditions with a short history (if necessary) and even a list of other doctors I was seeing. Sometimes the office staff had me fill out their form anyway, but most of the doctors really appreciated the information. When I went for subsequent visits, I wrote up a sheet with the reason for that visit, goals, etc. I found it helped me to remember all the question and concerns I had. It is so frustrating to leave the doctor's office and realize you forgot to ask a really important question.

Thanks! I'm going to the doc today & thought I'd look for help in talking. I suck socially in general, so it's extra hard. Sometimes I get out of the office feeling I didn't say everything I needed or that they weren't listening. I love what you said about making it about real world problems instead of just symptoms. I've never done that! Good plan! Thanks for the advice, using it today :)

While it's true that certain biases and stereotypes can exist, it's crucial for healthcare providers to approach each patient with empathy, understanding, and a commitment to providing quality care. If you ever feel unheard or dismissed during a medical visit, don't hesitate to advocate for yourself or seek support. Your health and well-being matter, and you deserve to have your concerns addressed with care and respect. Thanks again for raising this important issue.
