In this video we look at how simple it is to tan animal hides /skins. In this video we go step by step using a chital and fallow deer hide.
A full list of over the counter products is explained along with the process. This is great fun and its really cool to end up with another product from hunting. Any skins I have done have turned into great talking pieces in my home, and brings an amazing natural vibrance to my living room.
Sit back, enjoy the show and don't be scared to have a go your self!

Hey mate, great video. I’m in the middle of drying a skin using the same kit. I followed their instructions, salt, soaked the skin in the purple solution. How important are the two steps you did before soaking it?

I just do it the way I was shown sorry mate. I think salt does the same. Pickling is an added step, just ensures all the bacteria is dead for long lasting skins is my understanding. I always just salt first as I’m never close to home. Happy for anyone to jump in the comments if they are a taxidermist…. Have a google of pickling solutions in tanning hides and do some reading. Sorry I can’t help more, hopefully it still turns out epic for ya

You need to get a leather tanning kit now and then make some products out of the leather.
