Lots of great info in such a short video! I've noticed my dog ignoring the outside motivators more and more the more I give him praise. He used to go nuts after bicycles and people, but now just stays healed by my side. Need to continue to give him praise each time.

WOW good for you!!! Mine is still a work in progress. The bicycles are a REALLY tough one. I'm having luck with high value treats, every single time I call and he's responding.

@BenCarnage Жыл бұрын
I also have a Beagle pup :). About 30 minutes before his/her lunchtime take a big fistful of his food and pocket it. Now get to training. Don't get blindly focused on commands but rather that the dog is attentive. Walking with the dog in heel is a great way for this. Have your dog follow on your left side, his nose just slightly in front of your knee beside you and checking up at you. Feed the treats with your right hand, as this will encourage the movement and be more visible for your dog than if the food comes from directly above. During mealtime sessions you can reward quickly and frequently for correct basic behaviors. Outside of mealtime training I do a balanced mix with rewarding with praise, petting, with playfulness or with treats. Using food during this mealtime window however will help your dog grasp concepts very quickly as it will have a heightened focus. My dog has a LOT of fun being a very good boy during this time also. Establishing new skills indoors and then reinforcing them later during walks and outdoors when distractions are aplenty. We also have some open areas around where we live where we can do intense play with sticks. When I provide the stick we do a fetch and a big full speed sprint when he gets the stick. We do this 2-3 times in a row and we do a cuddle as he lies down for a minute after the sprints and chews the stick a little. I never treat the stick as a tug of war toy, so the dog will surrender it to me quite easily to continue the game. Also just doing stops every now and then and getting your dog to come over for fun pets and kisses will make the dog more inclined to give you priority when you ask for it. Also don't always disrupt the smelling session your dog might be on just because you can. Dogs need different stimuli, dependent on breed and personality, to become chill and happy. They need to follow some smells, they need a good run, they need to chew on something, they need to chase something and they need to rest enough. You being in charge and being able to steer how the dog satisfies those needs is not to exclude their urges. If your dog has the basics down, a Beagle will enjoy games that focus on scent and finding hidden objects (just don't accidentally teach digging behaviors). Beagles also love to make cozy dens. A beagle may rearrange the couch pillows and blankets for a nap. This isn't a destructive behavior so don't be too quick trying to correct it as if the dog was trying to rip something apart. Tl;dr Like the video says, the dog needs to feel that paying you attention is engaging and interesting beyond the current smell it has found.

Beagles are very intelligent, stubborn and destructive in the cutest package :) I love my dog, but he was not beginner friendly. Expect a hefty time investment. Very rewarding, because Beagles are brilliant family members, but they also require a lot of training and structure to thrive.

My dog has great recall when no distractions are around, but when he sees other dogs he's off and will just stick around the other dogs untill I'm truly far off. We have trained LOADS on it and always give great praise and treats. He just loves playing with other dogs and nothing I can offer compares for him. I'm just hoping it gets a bit better once he's older. He just turned one last week, so maybe his enthusiasm for playing with other dogs mellowa down a bit once he turns into an adult dog.

He loses his freedom if he won't listen. Stop the rehearsal of letting him ignore you. Also, every time you call them, doesn't mean they have to leave the other dogs. Lots of praise for leaving them, then as a release, ok, go play. When it is time to go, go get the dog. Just be sure it doesn't become a game of keep away. Hope that helps.

You just need to be better experience for your dog than any others dogs.😊❤🙏🏻 It means call your dog for something what he love most and don't give him these things in different time, only on recall if dogs are around.❤ For example...your dog love most cooked chicken...so you stop feed cooked chicken on occasions during day, but you will use it as reward during recall from others dogs. In start always, later sometimes that he will not be able predict, when chicken will arrive and it will keep him motivated.

🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation: 00:00 🐕 Understanding Recall - The key to achieving perfect dog recall is making sure your dog understands the recall command. - When your dog hears the recall command, they should come back enthusiastically. - The essence of point one is ensuring your dog associates coming back with positive experiences. 02:34 🦴 Motivation and Competing Motivators - Dogs are motivated by various factors, not just you and your rewards. - In real-world situations, competing motivators like chasing squirrels or playing with other dogs can distract your dog. - Breed genetics and temperament influence what motivates your dog. 03:27 🪝 Tipping the Scales of Motivation - Achieving perfect recall involves increasing your dog's motivation to come back and reducing the motivation of competing distractions. - Make coming back to you an awesome experience for your dog. - Consistently reward your dog with treats, playtime, praise, or other positive reinforcement when they return to you.

Will this work on a 6yr old Great Dane that I brought home from the shelter? We have sooo many distractions, the busy street, the cat that hangs around, and a very small unfenced uneven yard in back. He has pulled me down to the ground a few times now, to go after the cat. I can't seem to sway his attention he is so laser focused. Treats, toys don't get his attention. He his also very aggressive against other dogs. How can I fix this? Any suggestions are truly appreciated! 🐕

My dog isn't as powerful as yours, but how I've been training is with a fly swatter. You tap them on the butt when unwanted behavior happens and it works like a charm. It doesn't hurt them. It just startles them and snaps the dog out of whatever they are fixated on. You may want to try that for basic manners like no biting, pushing them away from food when you didn't give them permission, etc.
