When I lived in Karachi, one of my dad's friends had a couple of grey african parrots which would easily and regularly talk and whistle. The house where the parrots were living was in gated community. One day, my dad's friend got a complaint from a neighbor telling him to tell his sons to stop hooting/whistling when his daughters pass by. He then told his neighbor that the ones responsible were parrots and not his sons.

I have a Fancy Green Cheacked Conure. She just likes to shreak mostly and loves music and when people sing. I don't mind it, she shreaks when she is happy. Loves going in the shower (not under the water though). Got her to be comfortable in my hand upside down lying on her back without grabbing with her feet. Good bird but not the kind if you want a big talker. Some can talk but mostly mumbles.

If your'e parrot is intelligent enough. Try giving it treats such as green chillies (yes it works) and during that repeat the word you want to teach. I hope it helps. Good luck.

And so are IRN's and Alexandrine's which I have both of. Absolutely FANTASTIC talkers with PHENOMNOMAL clarity folks right up there with CAGS, TAGS, Amazons, and Too's. There own downfall is they are not as "hands on" as most other parrots in terms of the cuddly factor. However, that can be worked through with patience and everyday socialization which is what it will take to keep these Asiatic's tame and friendly in the home. Highly underrated birds because of the work involved I firmly believe but aren't all Parrots when you stop and think about it. There regal birds that are just ancient in there rich history dating back to Roman & Greek times entertaining kings and other royal dignitaries with there beauty and high levels of intelligence. So if your looking for a great companion that YES will take hard work BUT will pay off ten fold for your efforts. And keep you thoroughly entertained with there antics, intelligence, and beauty then DO NOT overlook the Asiatic's folks. And make sure to do your research on these and ANY birds you procure before impulsively making a purchase. I have 30yrs in the avian field working with wild & exotic pet species and have "hands on" experience working with everything from warblers to Birds of Prey and Budgies to Macaws. I am also owned by 8 various species of parrots at home that keep me on my toes each and everyday and above all NEVER cease to amaze me with there intelligence.
