Thanks for your question and interest in the monthly "Inner Circle." Are you on my email list? I open it up every once in awhile. There's a meeting coming up on January 9th (for me here in Australia). That would be the 8th in North America. If you're not subbed that way, shoot me an email and I can send you the details. Thanks again and talk soon!

Thanks so much for checking this out and wonderful that you're going back to finish what you started. The psychological and practical benefits of doing that are likely to be immense. When doing my PhD, I was strongly tempted to give in. But I pushed through because I knew that if nothing else, it would forever be complete. If I hadn't finished, I probably would have gone back eventually, or done another one somewhere else. The Zeigarnik effect is a powerful thing.

I study French and had a feeling that Metivier or Métivier is French, and so it is: French (Métivier): occupational name for a harvester, or rather a feudal tenant who owed a particular duty of service at the time of the harvest, from an agent derivative of Old French métive ‘harvest’ (from Latin messis aestiva ‘summer harvest’).

Hey Dr Anthony, Sometimes age is a blessing-while simultaneously being a burden. This is why I concur wholeheartedly with your points. I stepped outside my comfort zone , doing podcasting for the last 12 years. I reflect quite often, again partially due to chronology, but your points on note taking and journaling are so key. I continue to revisit the completed MMM Master Course, and I am again back at the great MMM Free PDF gateway to the superb online MMM. I learned a lot from this masterclass. Thank you for putting in the time. It introduced an altered way of learning structures different from what I practice now. One main point is the emphasis on summary memorization that people seem to think is smart. The fact is, you can easily tell when people live in “summary land.” Mastering orchestral composition requires thousands of hours of practice, yet you can read thousands of summaries and feel like you “know” the subject. This is unfortunate for those who skip this video. That said, depth in multimodal categories is not only a requirement for learning but also for practicing it. Whatever it takes to reach the point where one can summarize without embarrassment-I am extremely high right now. The jabs against those lazy bastards who want the summary of shit to get ideas is bunk. Lastly narrative above is all said with levity and deep passion for memory and the GENIUS of Anthony Metivier!
@AnthonyMetivierMMM8 күн бұрын
Bringing in music is really great - thanks for that. I was just telling someone who symphonic I find Thomas Mann's The Magic Mountain. The only way I could ever feel that way is the result of actually listening to how composers construct their symphonies, plus reading Mann in detail to catch the wave and ride it to the crescendos. There is such sadness when reflecting upon how much is missed by those who dismiss.

Nice, I do enjoy the longer content and this video is one that I would like to watch a second time around to fully digest all of the advice, and I do like the semester way approaching learning. It would be good to run a bunch. I'm already encountering a challenge though... given how difficult it is to put the core challenges into words. It's always the tricky thing with Bruno because he wants you to think... and think in such a way that the knowledge is earned. It's really just the same memory techniques at the core, but when derived in a different way, they seem to take on new meanings and value in the individual practitioner. I'll figure something out!
@DrStrapp9 күн бұрын
@@AnthonyMetivierMMM If anyone can it's you, I'm sure of it. Just an idea, but how about starting a discussion group/advisory board to bounce ideas off? Maybe some challenges need to be met head on with a community spirit approach?
@AnthonyMetivierMMM8 күн бұрын
Thanks for this suggestion. I wish I knew people who were deep enough into Bruno to make this happen. There have been attempts to create a general advisory board for memory as well amongst those who do know enough, but nothing I'm aware of has come to fruition. I could go on at length with speculations about why and how things are the way they are, but rest assured that it's not for a lack of trying that they aren't more unified and better as a result. But perhaps in the near future, they will be. We shall see.

With training, you'll soon go beyond having to come up with stories. That's not really what the true art of memory is about, even if it forms a small part in the beginning for training purposes, or as an occasionally useful mnemonic tool. Even used occasionally, it can be much easier when you have the five mnemonic systems developed in a well-formed way.

No, but you're right that Middle English could pose greater challenges. I'd have to try it to find out and see, as I'm not sure that it actually would. In any case, it's not Chaucer, and whenever I discuss the project, it's important to understand that it's more difficult for me, especially to utter the content smoothly. But others might find it a breeze.

@michaeldecastro50888 күн бұрын
I bought the 1995 book The Psychology of Associative Learning by Shanks yesterday online. I have been doing a lot of research on this connecting the Memex of Bush to hyperlink and so forth. It's amazing to see how Pavlov fits in. So many people used the word "ideas" of Locke as in idealism and the French Ideologues. Well Plato? So maybe an analytical book? The book on the way is going to cover material mostly of the 20 years prior to 1995 is what I understand. We'll see. Definitely not anything full of algebraic formulas. Something that connects our current computer age to past ideas of how the mind works. Real real deep.
