You did an excellent job at showing the different stages. Because of this video, I literally just learned yesterday that my Leo is a Lea..lol. I do see she is ovulating. I have been so worried because she has not been eating. I have been offering a variety of foods but she just won't eat. She will smell it then walk away. Then last night it popped in my head that he could be a she and found videos again on how to check. I checked a few months ago but read that you should probably wait until a year old. So I was waiting but I really think she was older than what I was told when I purchased her at the pet store on Christmas Eve 2021. So after reading about their breeding season and seeing that she is ovulating...made me feel a lot better about her not eating. This is actually my son's gecko so now I will have to tell him that that is gecko is a girl..lol. He is 9 so I will wait to tell him about the ovulating and all that stuff. Not ready to start that conversation!!! 😆

My husband has had his leopard geckos for about 4 years. They never mated so we just thought they were both boys, Bob and Spot, weve always kept them together in their tank. About 1 week ago Bob laid an egg. My husband and I were both so impressed. We made and incubator for the little egg and everything is going great. The only issue is that Spot and Bob keep fighting. We are really new in this so if someone can please help us. Do we need another tank for Bob?, Is this normal? 😭 hope you guys read this please helpp

Leopard geckos are solitary animals, and very territorial. Leos should never be cohabitated. You need to keep them in their own tank. I'd separate immediately, especially since they're fighting

I just watched this video because ive been having issues with my geckos for a few months now - all of my 3 geckos have stopped eating and theyre completely not interested in food which honestly is okay for 2 of my geckos because theyre pretty thick and dont have any issues with weight all however the other gecko was always a bit smaller then the other 2 but still had healthy weight for her size. Now that it's winter theyre all refusing food but in the last week and a half the small gecko lost A LOT of weight and she's light as a feather. I have just now found out about gecko ovulation and I can see clear signs of ovulation on the two bigger geckos bellys but no signs of ovulation on the small one - which I'm convinced is because her belly is so small you cant even see it. Im getting really worried and not sure what to do. for the last 2 days I have fed her the insides of the worms she eats which has been succesful but with not much interest from her side. I'm really unsure what to do and I have no vets that know anything ab exotic animals like geckos near me. She also somehow injured her leg (i have no idea how she has nothing in her enclosure that could have made that possible, but it doesnt seem like its bothering her much as shes still moving and is not showing any signs of pain. I would appreciate any kind of advice.

I thought my gecko was gravid- i mean i think she is. She was consistently digging all around her tank, stopped eating, etc. however i checked her again today and she seems skinnier (so I’m thinking she laid an egg-) but I couldn’t find it. It’s also kind of hard to determine because you can’t really see her eggs like you would normally with other geckos. (She was paired with a male.) I want to check her again to make sure but she’s not use to being held in such a manner, and I don’t want to stress her out if she is going to be laying eggs soon.

U can use a deli cup or clear plastic to put her in, then generally place a towel on top of her to hold her in place and u can look under her belly, dont keep her upside down for too long it is thought geckos cannot breathe upside down.

I have been able to clearly check my female each day on each step in prepping for more eggs thanks to this video thank you so much! my female comes to the front of my open front glass enclosure and lifts her top half up and out of the enclosure to say hi and I can see her tummy on the glass part of the bottom of the door area and see her little pregnant belly it's so cute!

Thank you for your video. I'd like to know if you have any advice for me? I have a female crested gecko that has two eggs still in the follicle stage. There does not seem to be shells forming on the eggs. I know this because the vet has done two xrays and one ultrasound. The eggs are unfertilized, the gecko has not been paired with a male at all. It has been a month now and she still has not layed the eggs. The vet wants to surgically remove if she does not pass the eggs in the next two-three weeks. Of course we are trying to avoid surgery, but have you dealt with anything like this?

Hey Joy I am no vet, but most people do not get surgery for their geckos. It's very expensive, and risky to the life of the gecko. Crested geckos are different than leopard geckos, most leopard geckos lay every 2-4 weeks, crested's can lay every 4-6 weeks, with certain eggs being held onto longer. If the girl is struggling to pass the eggs ask the vet if they can "deflate" the eggs via needle (i heard this was an option recently), however I still would not recommend it, as I have no experience with it. Is this a reptile specialist vet? If so I am surprised they would recommend surgery, but you have to weigh the pros and cons and make teh decision for yourself. Personally I've never known any crested gecko owner to opt for surgery in the situation your in. Sounds like the girl is still in the early stages of egg development and sometimes this happens, most geckos pass or reabsorb the eggs as time goes on. Again, not a vet, just some thoughts for ya.

@@GeekyGeckoCreations Hi, thanks for your response and advice. The vet we took the crested gecko to is not specifically a reptile vet, but an exotic pet vet. The gecko is not struggling to pass the eggs at all. In fact, she's acting very normal. She is eating, drinking, and moving about as usual. Occasionally, we see her digging, but not consistently. We did also put a lay box in the enclosure just in case the gecko wants a special spot. We are not happy about surgery either. We are going to watch her closely and wait and see what happens. Hopefully, the gecko will reabsorb the shell-less eggs.

almost impossible to tell. But there are a couple key indicators, if they are not full grown they will be less than one year old typically, if they are super bright color they might be between 1-4 years old, geckos with age continue to loose a little color saturation especially as they breed. but yeah sorry my man pretty much u need to have some info from the breeder or the geckos past to try to calculate that :)

Hey man i wanna ask. So a female can have like 3-6 clutch every season right, and in 1 clutch therell be 2 eggs. So do we need to mate the male n female every time (every clutch) after the female lay eggs or just need to mate once for the 3-6 clutch

Good question. One time is TYPICALLY going to be all you need. However I myself this year am trying to repair the geckos after every 2 clutches just to make sure there is enough sperm to fertilize each egg. If the female doesnt take, dont worry about it, but 50% of the time the females will repair. So 1x is good enough but 2x or more in a season in my opinion will give you better odds :)

I bred my leopard gecko last month (19th October) when she hit the small ovulation and only have 1 small pink dot and then i wait for 2 weeks and she is not gravid yet but the dot still continue to grow become 2 dots and have red-ish color, i try to re-breed again on 4 November and this time i make sure that the mating process is successful and the male locked into her by watching it just like on your video. Hi my leopard gecko was breed last year but this year I did not want to because she was very stressed when bred. I believe she is ovulating but I’m not quite sure. It seems like 2 white sacs on the bottom of her so I’m not sure if it is ovulation or eggs. She no longer eating and stays at her cold hide the past few days is it ok.

Im sure she is ok, sometimes females who are NOT bred can still lay infertile eggs, this is common, and as long as she has access to food, water, shelter, humidity, her biological senses will kick in and she'll be just fine. I pair as soon as i see the girl ovulating, if i am confident with the pairing i wont pair her again until 2 clutches later, but if the first clutch is infertile i will pair her 1-2 days after she lays her first clutch, i also try to generally repair girls 3-4 times each season, usually every other clutch, if they take, then its just extra sperm, cant hurt, but if u are not confident with the first pairing, try to repair a couple days later, if the girl accepts, good, if she rejects then let her be.

So sometimes this happens especially with young or old girls they will go in and out of breeding "mode" if you want to look at it that way. Just try to pair her again when she starts showing pink again if u want to breed her :D

If they are all living together theres a good chance she is gravid (pregnant) she will lay within 2 weeks of mating so keep an eye out for digging and laying. Once you see her first eggs then you know most likely she is gravid and she will continue to lay eggs every 2 weeks for about 4 month. sometimes it is hard to tell fat from eggs but you will also often see "pinkish" coloration around the sides of where the eggs are sitting because geckos are kind transparent sometimes those pinkish colors will appear indicating there is a live egg in there

They won't pass the eggs after a month. Because usually eggs will pass after 2-3 weeks. Any more than that, give the girl a warm bath and say a prayer, because there is no gaurentee she will be ok, but I had a gecko pass an egg after 4 months! Crazy, i gave her warm baths only like 3 times i in that period, nothing seemed to work but she eventually passed it on her own, one gigantic egg. But warm baths, and make sure she has access to 95 degree basking spot, the extra heat might help her pass. But she still needs a cool spot to retreat too :) Hope that helps. Either will work as long as the gecko has 85-95 degree area to bask for digestion. Personally i like belly heat better, :)

and another question is that, I recently paired my 4 females with male, I was pairing each female for 3 days, and then replaced with another, so my male hasn't been alone for a lot of days, I did this routine for 3 times, so each female was with male for 9 days. But here I will start to describe my problem. I haven't seen in this season that they are actually copulating. What in your opinion, I could do, to make my male be ''hungry'' for females?

@@filipsz6348 The males typically breed off the females ovulation cycle. I would say to only pair the geckos once you see the female ovulating for sure. Otherwise she will most likely fight him off and it will create a stressfull environment for the 2 geckos to be living together. Males "smell" the females whenn they are in ovulation and that triggers them to wiggle their tail and breed the female. Stay and watch the geckos for 10 minutures after you pair them. I usually put the male into the females habbitat, but depending on ur set up, its ok to go the other way. Watch them to see if they looki interested in each other. If they are not, I would seperate them and then try again a differnt day, this is all only after the female is ovulating for sure. hope that helps? Let me know :)

Hello, I’ve been recently worried about my female gecko. I can not tell whether the circle in her belly is pink or white with a pink border but she has seemed bloated. The dot seems to be located just above her fat reserves and it is one singular dot.This is not normal because her belly touches the ground for some reason even as she walks sometimes. Her walks have also been progressively slower. May this be follicular stasis?

she will most likely fight the male off over and over again, and in the off chance she lets him breed her, she wont have babies until she ovulates, geckos have the ability to retain sperm so she might have sperm in her when she does start to ovulate but its most secure to breed the girl when she stats ovulating :D

Sometimes they absorb and then re ovulate, that is probably what you are noticing, she'll stop soon. As long as she is not egg bound but egg bound girls usually look really bloated and the eggs are colored white and not pink.

Hey man how long is a female with eggs before laying, and is it normal for a female to stop eating when with eggs

Sometimes they stop eating for a short period of time but keep giving them food and calcium/vitamins like normal so they have access to food if they want. Once a female successfully pairs with a male it will take 2-3 weeks to lay her first clutch and then after she lays her first pair of eggs, she will continually lay 2 eggs every 2-3 weeks until she maxes out between 8-16 eggs for the year

Yeah nothing worrisome there as long as you keep giving her access to food and calcium you will be ok, normal behaviour

@@lilianasanimalzoo2821 yep ur ok, some females lose even 10g or more durring season, 3 g is nothing to worry about yet. Keep an eye on her and keep me informed, email me a picture at [e-mail] if you can and I can visually look at her too

Get yourself a clear glass casserole dish. It's clear, so you can see through it; and large enough for the gecko to comfortably sit in. All you have to do is look from underneath and shine a flashlight/cellphone light. No risk of dropping a tail and no stress for the gecko.
