Yep, that way is better than just going by coil resistance specs for sure......and can help locate open circuits.

hi, is this test showing a fairly weak spark, or is this considered normal spark for smaller vehicles, just bought an atv that dosnt start, i get spark, but im used to working on cars, and i find the spark very small/weak. thx and great video cheers from norway

Is a coil for a CDI interchangeable with a coil for points?

I would guess so. As long as it falls with the same range.

What does it mean when it only sparks when the negative touches the battery and nothing from the plug

That's what I have too. I'm thinking a bad coil. The resistance from both the primary and secondary coils is both fine though. It's weird
