We head out to the u-pull junk yard to find new starters and do a quick "how-to test a starter in the yard before you buy it". We also find some lift spring on an XJ that will fit Eric's ZJ and a CJ-7 bumper that I pull for my WJ.
Here is a link to the PowerAll Jump Pack that Eric and I used to test this starter in the yard:

Put that bumper on the front of your WJ, but don't cut off anything. Turn the bumper over so that its upside down, and weld some more plate steel across from end to end making a solid platform on which to mount a winch. You could use the hitch receiver to mount the winch so that it's removable and you could move it to the back of the vehicle for winching from the rear.

That is an awesome idea actually! I had considered cutting out the center section to create a front hitch bumper, but I like the idea of using the entire thing

The bumper was the strongest part of that Jeep! Great find! The floor boards on my CJ7 viewed from the bottom said no parking

I have a lazy Bendix. Is there any way to freshen it up so that it moves smoothly? And doesn't hesitate. Sometimes it doesn't kick in right away.

You guys think i can put 28 inch tires on my wj without lifting it?
@DEInTheGarage
@DEInTheGarage 5 жыл бұрын
Yes, absolutely. The stock tires on WJ (most if not all) were 29 inches anyway. I personally fit 30" tires on a bone stock WJ with no issues and 31" tires with a 2 inch lift

On that bumper.....those are not steps. They are for holding a can of gas on one and a can of water on the other. What's missing is the sheet metal shields to keep the bumper's mounting bolts from "dinging" the fuel / water cans. The shields also have slots on each side for attaching hold down straps to hold the cans in place.
@DEInTheGarage
@DEInTheGarage 6 жыл бұрын
Good call! I was wondering. I originally thought that might be what they were for, but I didn't know a piece was missing. thanks.

Those shield pieces can easily be made at home. Look up older photos of jeeps used in warzones especially WW2 and Korea, and some older 4-wheeling magazines, etc. and you can find many shots showing the full setup. At one time, you could buy those platforms with the shields and straps at off-road suppliers and war surplus stores. Those shields are made from 16 to 18 gauge steel, usually with some strengthening rolled ribs. I like your videos showing your trips to the salvage yards.....keep them up. Thanks.

Oh, and I forgot.....;my vote is to put it on the rear of your jeep. Being able to carry extra gas and water while off the beaten path can be a real life saver. And that type III hitch has so many inserts available to be of REAL help, too. On one of your junkyard jaunts, look for a type III hitch that bolts to the frame and get it for the front of your jeep. Bolt it to the front frame ends of your jeep and you're all set.

Question; What happens if you find a 4.0L "TUPY" head on a engine in the junkyard? Are you allowed to pull it or is it considered "sacrilege?"
