How to throw a right hook? A technically challenging punch. We need lots of drive from the rear foot, lots of hip rotation and lots of acceleration on the punch if you want to get the right hook working well. Maintain the technique of the right hook, this is important to maximize the chances of it landing and also landing with power.

On the long range, i like to turn my palm out towards my opponent. I find it really helps me land on my index and middle knuckles with ease.

Hi coach I use a hook as you showed here but my cuban coach always stresses that I throw my hooks palm down cause he said that’s where the power comes from and tells me to twist my shoulder is that right cause I’ve been used to throwing the hook like might Tyson

Practice the thumbs down way on your own and practice it in sparring. Show him that you know how to use this hook

Especially on the short hook, that takes the natural power from the punch and doesn't get around the guard. Not good. Many coaches say don't rotate the fist at long range, but in amateurs that isn't a legal scoring punch, it is a slap.

Your wrists should be as straight as possible when throwing a hook. It sounds like you can't hit the bag properly because your fist is not hitting the bag in the right place. Adjust where you strike the bag to where your fist goes when throwing the hook properly, not the other way around. Am I correct in thinking that you are literally hooking your punch as in your fist goes past the bag a little bit and then back in towards you?
