Just for people who have never fished it let it drop all the way down to the bottom then reel in the slack and then you slowly twitch it say in your head twitch twitch stop and repeat it and it’s kinda hard to know if you have a bite you will just feel something different and the line will tense up and you sit the hook. Also this bait works I won my tournament yesterday with only the Carolina rig and a green pumpkin senko. My bag was 28 pounds.

Hey Gene, for starters I just wanted to say thank you! You've helped me and several others I know to become better fishermen, and to become more confident in myself as one. I've watched all of your videos, more than once, and have spread the knowledge I've learned from you to others around me. Thanks again. Also, I've seen your jig videos, but you should also make a video on swim jigs! That'd be something I think we all could learn more about.

@Stoney Lonsome Yeah, during winter or when its super cold, usually something slow is the best thing. Always wanna fish it deep when its cold too, and you never wanna touch topwater. Some people use topwater during fall, and I may try it during fall, but you just wanna have a deep bait in the cold. In the winter, its warmer down deeper. In the heat, its cooler down deeper. So, using a very deep diving crankbait would work well in winter even if its relatively fast, same goes for a swimjig or a spinner or chatterbait, but if youre not fishing too deep you probably wanna go with something slow. Say, a split shot rig with a trick worm, finesse worm, or something like that. I'm no expert, but this is just what I've heard, and most of it I'm pretty sure is solid advice, but I would recommend googling to be sure. I'm replying kind of late so you probably have figured it out by now, but I figure this may help anyways.

They get hung up a lot on mushy bottoms for you? Wonder if coating them with something like silicone would help with that??
@TackleJunky8110 жыл бұрын
My experience with them is with vegetation or like moss or whatever you wanna call it on the bottom will collect on the front and pull the keeper down. Adding a second one helps a little, but for me in any type of vegetation I prefer a swivel and with a clean bottom I like the keepers.

I've been fishing for 25 years of my life and one of my biggest pet peeves in fishing is that bass fishermen never let people know the fact that the Carolina rig isn't just for bass. It's actually the most versatile multi-species rig out there and people use it to catch pretty much every species of fish out there in both freshwater and saltwater literally everything. I personally use it for channel catfish, flathead catfish, blue catfish, bluegill, white crappie, black crappie, pumpkinseed, redear sunfish, rainbow trout, brown trout, brook trout, shovelnose sturgeon, freshwater drum, and surf perch, flounder, and red snapper when I make it down to California to go surf fishing. The reality is you can catch pretty much anything on the Carolina rig and I wish bass fisherman would let people know that just in case they aren't aware of how versatile the Carolina rig actually is.

Great video. I tend to do it a little backwards though I tie the hook on first then cut the line to use as a leader. Then start at the beginning as you did. BTW for anyone else you should probably get a power above what you use your other rods for. Bought a MH and its a much better Crankbait rod than it is as a Jig rod.

Hi Gene - Would you explain why you feel you can cover more area with a Carolina, versus a Texas, rig?
@Flukemaster10 жыл бұрын
Keith Hallbourg Sure, A texas rig isn't really a dragging rig. Due to the fact that it will bury itself into the silt on the bottom the bass can't get to it as easy as they can a Carolina rig. So if I'm just casting to a target I'll use a Texas Rig but if I'm trying to cover an area like a long point or flat I'll use a Carolina Rig first.
@KeithHallbourg10 жыл бұрын
OK - makes perfect sense. Which is why flipping and pitching is generally done with a more texas rig style, i.e. weight at bait, correct? That is, if weighted.
