As much as I wish I had sent my dog to Brandon for training before bringing him home kzbin.infoUgkx1_veP7CApJK_GWy_TczaMciuG64PqJeU I am so grateful for this down-to-earth, practical guide. His training techniques and tips really work. Thank you as well for dedicating your life's work to rescue dogs, and to rescuing those of us who want the very best for our 4-legged family members.

I did the same type of training. On our morning walks, we pass by a known pair of dogs. One of them Oliver loves hanging out with while the other is a barker for pedestrians and dogs walking by. Oliver would pull towards the dog wanting to pick a fight. We kept walking by every walk by daily and at first, I kept him as far away as possible to have Oliver walk by with no pulling. Each day we would move just a little closer and finally, after two weeks, we can pass their house on the same side of the street and Oliver just keeps walking by while ignoring the other dog who is still a heavy barker.

Dogs are AMAZING! But they are more than just loving companions. They are living, breathing things just like us! Before you get a dog, ask yourself these questions: Will I have time to exercise my dog a few times a day EVERY DAY? (if they aren’t exercised properly they can become destructive, tearing up your house, or even become aggressive) Can you be responsible enough to feed the dog before school and at dinner? Are you prepared to have to deal with medical bills ($1,000’s of dollars sometimes) Are you ready to deal with any quirks/flaws your dog might have? (not good with small animals, fear-aggression, disabilities, dominance, anxiety, etc? Most of all: are you ready to spend lots of time training your dog (super important!!!) Another thing: SOCIALIZING your pup. This is incredibly important. I hope you feel more prepared! There are many dogs that need homes and I hope you can get one❤️

@@jordana6115 it takes time brother, dog is an animal not a robot, it does mistakes and has progress, u cant expect his dog to be perfect instantly just because he's a "trainer", that's a load of crap. Thank you. My dog is barking at neighbors when she sees them. I was practicing having her off leash and walking with me when she saw two neighbors walking; she darted over to them, barking at them and scaring them... It was pretty embarrassing. I had to walk over quickly and put my hand up to signal and say, "Stop." I asked her to sit and had to gently push her bottom down a little. I put her gentle leader and leash back on. I haven't used treats in a while, but I think after watching this, she and I may have to hang out near where my neighbors might be walking more, and I will use the treats and try to get her to look at me. I was trying to socialize her so much in positive way so she wasn't scared of people from age 3 months to 2 years but the pandemic has confused her a bit now (2.5 years old now) since she doesn't see much of anyone except for me now!

Very relevant to us! My dog has always been a little nervous around bridges on the trail by our house, but recently as we approached a bridge, a huge group if cyclists was coming. I kept her off to the side to let them pass. She didn't get reactive, but the noise must have really scared her. The next time I was walking her, coming from the opposite direction even, she stopped about 100 ft away--so far that it took me a while to realize that was why she stopped (I checked her paws for thorns thinking she was hurt!). It's going to take a lot of conditioning to get over this one! I might even try walking her in her thunder shirt, since it seems to reduce her anxiety.
