Thanks a lot for this! I've been trying to learn treading water for more than two weeks now and sincerely this is the only video that helped me. I can now tread using this technique for more than one minute, it's maybe until I get tired but I know I still need to improve myself. It's all about breath control and mastering the movement while staying calm and relaxed. It took me more than one hour to get used to the technique. Before this method I was spending a lot of my energy moving my arms and legs so fast and I got tired so quickly and it wasn't effective at all that I sink and swallow water after only 10-20 seconds. Thanks again! You got a like and a subscription.

Thank you for your explanation, especially on the part that it is normal if we cannot do it overly long. May I ask though.. I see people on the ocean can vertically tread water with their head out for quite a long time. Is it because it is easier to float in salt water than in the pool?
@RocketSwimming
@RocketSwimming 9 ай бұрын
It's great that you found the video helpful! Yes, the salt content in the ocean water helps you float better than in the pool water. But it takes effort and practice to keep treading water and breathe properly due to the waves crashing on your face. Better to use life jacket in any open water.

The only way I can get my head above the surface is if I fill my lungs with air. I start to sink as soon as I exhale. The only way I can stay afloat in one place is by going up and down as I fill my lungs withe air and exhale. I'm trying to move my hands and legs as you've described. But I still sink as soon as I exhale. Any tips on what I can try to tread water? P.S: Thanks for clarifying that treading water is a technique that can only be used for a short period.
@RocketSwimming
@RocketSwimming 6 ай бұрын
It sounds like you're doing well by focusing on lung buoyancy, which is a great start. To help stay afloat while treading water, try these tips: Stay Relaxed: Tension can make you sink. Stay as relaxed as possible. Sculling Motion: Use a gentle back-and-forth motion with your hands, palms facing downward, to create lift. Bicycle Kick: Move your legs in a bicycle pedaling motion, which is efficient for staying afloat. Timing: Try to exhale gently and gradually, maintaining enough buoyancy as you do. It can take time to master, but keep practicing! And remember, it's normal to feel more secure with fuller lungs. Good luck!

Using hands while using rotary kick for treading or towing means you Do Not know how to use the eggbeater. Hands are great for learning the kick. Or you get or don’t want to get tired. How do you get better with the rotary? Practice Practice Practice. Beware. If you are a floater, you will need to use the Pool Brick (or equivalent) with both hands to cancel out the false sense of security. Challenge yourself. Ask the instructors and guards at your pool for ideas.

Interesting perspective, but I’d approach it a bit differently. Using hands during rotary kick isn’t a sign of not knowing the eggbeater - it’s a tool for building coordination and confidence, especially for beginners. Swimming isn’t one-size-fits-all; some learners might benefit from starting with hands to stabilize before progressing. As for practice, absolutely agree! But I’d argue practice should be purposeful. Adding resistance with tools like a pool brick is great, but only when someone’s ready or it could discourage floaters who are just starting out. Instructors and guards are great resources, though! The key is balancing challenge with progress.

I’m scared of deep water and wen I’m in deep water I can’t swim anymore because I’m scared 😀💔

It's completely normal to feel that way. Building confidence in deep water takes time. Try practicing in shallower water first, gradually moving deeper as you feel more comfortable. Remember, you're stronger than you think! 💙

Treading water takes a lot of practice and stamina. Keep practicing. Think of the kick as a breaststroke kick.

Eh sorta. You’re better off learning the eggbeater kick. Let me know if you try it bicycle style and whether or not it’s successful! - Jonny Rocket

Treading water is hard and exhausting! It's amazing that you can swim all other strokes. I suggest you to lean forward a little bit when treading water. Try it.
