I had this in the 1990s and went to the podiatrist and he made me cookies - this is basically a soft arch support that's taped to the feet. This was helpful but I couldn't take it off or I'd have to go back and get another one at the doctors. He measured me for orthotics which were $200 each and weren't covered by insurance and they would take a month to make. So I canceled the orthotics and made my own for a few bucks. These decreased the pain considerably but didn't cure it. What cured it was a night splint which I made from parts from Home Depot. You can buy these at drug stores these days. What I did to keep it away was to get good shoes and keep track of the usage (which a lot of people do today but was difficult in the 1990s), and stretch. I have very strong calves from tennis. The main cause, from what I can tell, is using worn shoes for running and tennis.
