Very good video. Not sure about the paint you use but you might suggest to your viewers to clean chair first with at least a TSP mixture, I use naphtha in case there is any wax but I’ve been finishing wood for over 50yrs so I’m used to harsh chemicals. Loved your video. I’ll be trying to upholster a similar chair for the first time. Thanks!!!

Hey Jami, how have these held up? I have a set of cane dining chairs I had to upholster the backs of. I have seen videos that use webbing for support but my fabric is light color so the webbing’s shadow shows through the fabric so I’m worried if I don’t use the webbing it won’t have enough support. These turned out beautifully and I love the fabric. I can’t wait to find a set like this and try this out!
@JamiRayVintage3 жыл бұрын
I sold them so I’m not 100% sure but I’ve done a lot like this and the ones I’ve kept have held up great, even with my 5 kids

Hi there. I love your work. It os simple and clean easy to understand. I have this great dinning chairs that I've had forever and i refuse to go to a store and buy expensive cheap ones to replace them. My questions is how much roughly you spent on materials. Thank you
@JamiRayVintage6 жыл бұрын
Thanks! It depends on the materials used. The fabric used in this video is drop cloth. Cost about $10.00 for enough to do both chairs.

great video on how to upholster a Queen Anne chair - question - what size staples are you using in the air staple gun? I was using tacks and see that the staples work very well. Also - the chair I am working on had the fabric folded in on itself for added support - does that really make a difference?
@JamiRayVintage6 жыл бұрын
The folded fabric helps to keep it from ripping out. But since I’ve gone to using a pneumatic stapler I haven’t had an issue with that. The staples are 1/2” 18 gauge.

Hello, I have a set of 4 chairs very similar in appearance/style to these in your tutorial. They are probably 20 years old and the webbing has disintegrated so the seat cushions are sagging badly. The seats have 5 springs and webbing top and bottom. The original upholstery is still in serviceable condition, and I wish to salvage it. I'd hoped to simply remove the seat cushions and reweb, but there are no screws to be found holding the seat on. Have you any advice as to how I might remove the seat cushions without destroying the fabric, please? I wish I could attach a pic to show you, but I do not know how...? Thank you in advance!
@jamiherlihy23116 жыл бұрын
did you take out all the staples ? I am re upholstering a bench loveseat and someone went wild with the staple gun, also used a really high psi because they are really buried into the wood. This is taking me days just to dig out all the staples. please help!

Yes we remove all the staples. Sometimes if they are embedded and we can remove the fabric then we leave them.

Patricia Preston I started out using a little 2 HP 6 gallon pot compressor which worked great and did everything I needed. Now I just hook a line to Zeb’s big Air compressor in the garage. The little compressor worked great though!

Jami, I loved watching your video until you got to the hot glue gun and the trim. I'm about to do a chair for my living room that I purchased for $20. The seat needs some work before I can try to upholster it, so I need to figure out how to make the seat comfy. I will be using cording in the same fabric, so that's why I was surprised with your finishing. However, I then read the notes you posted and saw this video was an "easy no-sew tutorial ..." so I should have known you wouldn't be using cording. I have more confidence now that I've watched your video. Thanks for this and many other things I've learned from you!

Jan Myers I am so glad! There are lots of videos on how to do piping that hopefully will be helpful. I use the gimp trim because it's easier for me.
