This is the absolute best comment. I’m 23 but I grew up with my father having me go outside and do what I thought was just waxing. Overtime I learned he was having me wax it at times and correct it at others. It was the first ever taste of detailing, and I didn’t even know it was a thing. He just had me keeping his cars nice lol.

Using dual action polisher I recommend for entry level detailers. It’s hard to make errors and doesn’t leave swirl marks. I prefer the good old fashion dewalt polisher over dual action polisher. I’m saying this because of heavy oxidation and deep scratches vehicles will not give you great results with a simple dual action. Best dual action I’ve used is the mt300. You will use many products and pads just for a section at a time. But it gives you the results of a dewalt first and using a dual action polisher to finish the vehicle.

HD recommends using One followed by Poxy. Speed however is described as a single use combination mix between One and Poxy however its just not as strong as using them seperately. They mention use of One and Poxy for a first time customer paying for a detail paint correction then Speed alone on follow up jobs. They all are three EXCELLENT products!

Great video Luke! I especially liked the part where you mention where beginners(I included) mess up when learning to do paint correction. One would be quick to blame the tool, but you can get good results with any tool, but if you don't know how to maneuver that tool, you won't see results. It's all just practice in the end. Thanks also for showing a little of how you handle the DA on the front bumper cover, something we don't see enough of during these instructional videos. Cheers Luke!

What’s the difference between a 1 step 2 step 3 step paint correction? Also, if polishing is for bringing out the shine and remove small blemishes, and there are pads that attack the scratches more harder, do you need to use “compound”?
@utzdeac
@utzdeac 5 жыл бұрын
one step gives you a level o correction, 2 steps gives you more correction, multi steps are for "show car". yes, the compound is for removing more clear coa,t so more defects and after compound you need to polish to refine the clear coat, usually the compound will leave haze in the clear coat and with polish you will remove that haze/holograms and bring the shine

You work in small sections to allow the abrasives to focus on that smaller section. Half a hood is too large for effective correction as you're spreading the product too thin and clogging the pad. The slow speed is for correction not the high speed as you're suggesting. You're getting the results of an enhancement, not a correction by using your methods described in this video.

At what point did I suggest high speed is for correction? Hook it up in the comments
@nc.detail
@nc.detail 5 жыл бұрын
@@wilsonautodetailing At the very beginning, you said you were going to use a higher speed to help with the body lines. This would be resolved if you would simply use the right sized pad for the panel. Again, you're simply doing an enhancement and not a true correction. You're only going over each area a couple times and not cycling the product fully. Evidenced by the thick layer that is all over the paint. You simply can't get enough cut by doing full door at a time and using a single pad. Cleaning it out only buys you another half a panel. You should be using 8+ pads of different sizes to get that job done properly. Taping the trim is still needed for a DA, it saves your pads and the trim itself. I guess we have different definitions of paint correction and the proper process. Then again we could be at different price points. Best of luck.

Interesting observation about the difference in the younger generation vs older as I scroll through the comments on Luke's videos. Most all of the detailers in their late 30's or older try so hard to reply to anyone that asks a question or says thank you or at least like the post even though it's incredibly hard to do and cuts into their time. They at least try. Younger generation, very rare. Most youth today don't even feel bad if they don't. As a school teacher, I see the shift all the time. Sadly, common courtesies like that are quickly going out the window.

He’s not very skilled...he’s trying to cut time by using more polish and buffing larger sections at a time which is really just cutting corners. Sometimes he doesn’t even apply pressure as he’s compounding. Also also, he’s not overlapping his passes by 10 - 15 percent 🤦🏻‍♂️ Much better to use less compound and buff 18x18 or 24x24 sections at a time. Meshing together certain products, Backing plates, Pad types, Pad brands, comfort in your overall movement, arm speed, pressure, cycling the product properly etc. is what's going to give you different results. Wilson Auto Detailing, In this process did you ever think about stepping up the aggression with slightly increased machine speed, slower arm speed, and only one pass to cut through the defects, and then decrease machine speed and increase arm speed to refine during the second pass? Or maybe even using a machine with a smaller throw? There is a slight *bloominess* (DA haze) to the finish of the paint, but don't get me wrong the paint still looks great. In regards to lighting, there is truth to having better lighting but super expensive Scangrip lighting is not needed or necessary. I think you could have great luck with Lutec lights sold at Home Depot online, specifically the 2500 Lumen or 3500 Lumen unit, they are very affordable. I would like for you to know that I am not commenting to degrade your work, the car looks pretty good. But what if in the same amount of time you could give the customer a better result? I know that on these softer clears there is a fine line that we need to balance between maximizing defect removal and finishing in one step, I've gone round and round with them, especially blacks.

You probably won’t reply to this Wilson, but did the 5 hours include the washing/decontamination of the paint, as well as the paint correction itself?

@@wilsonautodetailing cheers mate... would it be best if I run a pad cleaning brush and car blower over them after each set? At the moment I 've got 4 cutting and 4 polishing pads... is that ok or do I need more.. just starting my own detail business! Great vids as usual by the way!

Was it me or did the paint seem hazy? Maybe he should have made a couple of passes with a light polishing pad.🤔

Definitely hazy. I think 3d one with a light polishing pad would have cleared it up a ton

Spencer B it’s because he used a heavy cutting pad. I would have used a rupes yellow medium wool pad which cuts well but finishes well also perfect for a 1step

Love the videos and do you ever do polishing by hand? (ie. no buffer just hand held pad). My dad owns a car detailing business in Australia and it is a bit better in some ways especially on black cars.

Good video. I’m old school and use a rotary with a yellow foam pad for compounding and a black foam pad for polishing. I’ll use the d.a. for applying the wax. For me and the amount of cars I do in a day the d.a. just takes too long. That car would take me 2 hours max.
