Hey Scotty I have been thinking of buying this Genius Jump Booster because I rarely use mine car during the winter. So it might be a good way to easily start it the battery/engine up again. Is it possible to fully charge your battery or is that not recommended to do so. I noticed you also got different types of this device, is the 1000amp enough for a Peugeot 206? and can you recharge the booster right back at home again? Thanks for in advance.

I actually picked up one of these a few years ago and kept it in my trunk in case I need it. It's good one to have in your car. You don't have to bother anyone for a jump start. When I was cleaning my car today, I had a person asking me if I had a jumper cables because the battery of his truck died. I told him I don't have one, but I do have the genius boost. Hooked it up to his battery terminal, and it started like it was nothing. Glad I could help him. Poor guy was stranded all day.

To all the naysayers out there, this product works. I just got the GB40 (1000 amps) from Amazon and used it to start my Ford Focus 2002 Station Wagon that's been sitting for months. I'll admit this isn't one of the coldest days here in Wisconsin but it's pretty cold for the rest of the country. It's 1F outside right now and I just started the car. I had to engage the "boost" feature as I didn't get any signal at first. I didn't have to wait 30 secs, I just plugged it in, clicked the boost override button and dove in the car and it started from the first try. Funny thing is that I still couldn't drive the car. It's been snowing a lot lately and there's so much snow and ice between the wheel/brakes that my car is frozen put. I used the hand brake and not it won't release. I'll have to wait for a nice sunny day to get moving again. As for the reliability and performance of this product, it's the best car related purchase I've ever made. P.S. my battery didn't have any visible + - signs but the battery cover did mention it. Usually, red is positive and black is negative. Hope this helps!

I bought the Noco GB40 and it works great. I have daughters. A woman doesn't like asking a man for a jumpstart in the middle of the night, and having one of these Noco units is the solution. Anyone can now jumpstart their care solo, no need to ask anyone for help. Of course, I guess you could always carry a spare fully charged 12v lead acid battery in your trunk with some jumper cables, but this just seems a whole lot better. Thanks!

Thanks for this idea Scotty. I'm keeping a lead-acid jump system in my emergency box by my back hatch and it has gotten me out of trouble with an old battery until I got it changed out. It's also handy if a family member is stuck with a dead battery too since I can drive right over and hook it up fast. (Li-ion systems are lighter and denser for a given size though. I got the Lead Acid as a gift.)

I got similar one from eBay for around $80. It did start my Mazda 3 and on 2 separate occasions I was able to start 2 other cars in our underground garage, one of them was a large SUV that sounded like a diesel and that started too. It also kept my laptop powered on for few hours on a long trip. I'd say money well spent.

My nephew saved my butt with one of these things. On Christmas Day the -15 degree weather finally finished off my 5 year old battery. I even had the head bolt heater plugged in, wouldn't turn over. Thanks for this great tutorial, Scotty! Only a few weeks ago I was in the situation that my battery was empty, it has only 0,34V left! And unfortunately I had just a electronic portable jump starter that usually doesn't work when the battery is on such low voltage. But I found a solution for everyone who got stuck in this situation! Just use a new 9V block battery and connect it parallel to the battery together with your jump starter. Now your battery has "theoretically" 9V and the device will recognize it. There is no danger using a 9V block battery , because all power from the jump starter and the alternator will flow directly into the empty car battery and will not try to charge the 9V block battery. When you start your car, the 9V block battery will be immediately drained, so you can only try it once, but it should work on the first try. After that don't forget to disconnect the 9V block battery. You're welcome!

My shop has something similar to this that the boss bought from the Interstate battery guy. It's more compact that what Mr Kilmer has and works like 75% of time. The one we're using is only good when jumping a partially dead battery on V6-V8 cars, however it'll not jump a completely dead battery car with those size engines.

I found such batteries from a Chinese vendor (from which I bought a 14k mAh battery for my iPhone because I work a tonne on it) and besides the fact that it was larger than my laptop's (in mAh but not in size, 90k mAh) not only I could have used normal USB or even power my laptop but it also had car jumping cables. It's definitely a must buy just in case of anything.

Fantastic videos Scotty. I have just seen the video about the Noco Genius GB30 and went right out and bought one. I live in Toronto and its a warm 21 degrees below zero today and it is only going to get colder. I was going to buy a bulky booster but after seeing the GB30 in action I am glad I waited. As you know nothing kills a weak battery faster than cold and it is good to know I can keep the GB30 in my glove box ready for any one who might need a boost without the hassle of booster cables or the risk of damage to my alternator or the multitude of computers on board today. Thanks again and keep those videos coming, they are great. Ps I wish there were more honest mechanics like you.

Hi Scotty, I did some extensive research on P420 code and it turns out that it is pretty much never due to the catalytic converter. So, even if replacing the cat or switching fuels or using paint thinner makes the code go away, in pretty much every single case, it's STILL not because of the cat. Anything you do that improves the score on the O2 sensor can make it go away temporarily, so making it go away doesn't necessarily mean you found the problem. The majority of 420 cases are simply because of a leak in the exhaust. Any nick or opening or loose connection (especially around the flex pipes) will cause the pressure to drop a little, causing the O2 score to drop. So, inspecting every inch of the exhaust system is the first step. Next to check is your spark plugs and leads, which, just like your rusty old exhaust pipe are not designed to last forever. But your catalytic converter is designed to last the life of your car. After reading all the stories of people chasing 420 issues, I bet that 99% of the cats that get replaced have nothing wrong with them and so someone could probably make a good business buying "clogged" ones and testing them them before reselling them as being in good condition.
@scottykilmer9 жыл бұрын
yes, all true, but I'm showing people how to get their car to pass the emissions test, and cleaner will often do that. Cat systems are a complex feedback system, and it can often cost thousands to get them to run efficiently enough to turn that light off.

@301steady6 жыл бұрын
1000A Works great for my 5.9 Jeep, and my Suburban; both of which, would not start with only 400A. Ask me how I know. HA HA. I see you got some negative comments down below. Haters gonna hate. But, my bet is they probably have larger engines or higher compression engines that require more than 400A. My Suburban needs a new battery right now; and, I'm looking for one that's more for recreational use; because, I generally don't drive the big thing; unless, I'm on vacation or something. I was thinking about your "Lithium IRON" battery, that'll fit a Suburban; but, I can't find it. I need battery size 78, advertised for 800A cranking amps - the very reason the little 400A model won't crank a Suburban. Anyways, as much as batteries cost; and, like you said, "They're not giving them away"; and, as many times as I've replaced batteries only to get one or two trips out of it; yeah, I'm seriously thinking about a Lithium IRON battery for my Suburban. Any ideas on that? Any coupons? HA HA

I work at a car lot in my town. We only have about 30 cars, but, on any given day, at least 5-6 are dead. From them sitting, even though we start them every morning. These little jumpers will start 10 cars easy on a single charge. But you need to take it off the battery as soon as the car starts or they will overheat really quick and can melt the leads.

Yeah these things are GREAT. I have one but not this brand and does just as good a job. I don't think it is as idiot proof if you hook the posts in the incorrect order but does the job. It is a bit of a lower profile than that one also. Had a mini light and should be great. Haven't had to jump a car with it yet and should give 10 good jumps from a dead car.
