Appreciate your clear style of explaining a complex subject. Would you consider doing a follow-up video showing how to set up different multisig wallets using Sparrow? Something like a 2 out of 3 using 2 hardware wallets and 1 software wallet and then a 2 out of 3 using 3 hardware wallet wallets with Sparrow. Thanks.

Wondering if I can import a hot software wallet with more than just bitcoin on it just to see and possibly consolidate UTXO's. I wouldn't expect to see the other coins. I appreciate your videos. Thank you.
@RhettReisman4 ай бұрын
You should be able to import a hot software wallet also using the seed phrase (even if there are other cryptos on the wallet). You should make sure that your computer doesn't have malware / etc something that is logging the seed phrase as you enter it.

Hi, can you make a video like this but for Ngrave wallet? Thanks
@RhettReisman5 ай бұрын
I have never used Ngrave wallet - steps should be similar if Ngrave is supported by sparrow. If sparrow does not support Ngrave I would suggest using a new hardware wallet for your bitcoin.

Appreciate the info Rhett. Any idea why my 15+ UTXOs all have the same address with a exclamation mark "duplicate address"? Also, any tips on why I appear to be only seeing the Native SEGWIT vs SEGWIT funds I see on Ledger Live? Derivation path? TIA
@RhettReisman5 ай бұрын
It sounds like you're dealing with a couple of distinct issues, so let's tackle them one by one. 1. **Duplicate Address Warning** Seeing multiple UTXOs with the same address and an exclamation mark indicating "duplicate address" suggests you’re reusing addresses. This isn't typically recommended for privacy reasons. 2. **Native SEGWIT vs. SEGWIT on Ledger Live** The difference in address types you're seeing (Native SegWit, also known as `bech32`, and SegWit) likely stems from the derivation path used by your wallets. Native SegWit addresses start with "bc1" and are generally more efficient in terms of transaction fees compared to traditional SegWit addresses, which start with "3". Ledger Live might be showing different funds under these categories based on how each app is interpreting these addresses from the blockchain. 3. **Derivation Path:** If your Sparrow wallet is set to a different derivation path than what your Ledger Live is set to use, they might display different sets of addresses and funds. You’ll want to make sure that both Ledger Live and Sparrow are set to the same derivation path. Hope that helps
@derekd88865 ай бұрын
@@RhettReisman 1) I think this is a result of auto withdrawal from DCA on exchange to a common receive address? 2) I assume ill want to move all funds to the most efficient Native SEGWIT? is this something i would want to use Sparrow to do or is ledger live sufficient? Thanks!
@liggs714 ай бұрын
Is it a problem if other crypto types are also on the ledger? Is the benefit of using sparrow purely for bitcoin consolidation? Thanks.
@RhettReisman4 ай бұрын
Not a problem if there are other crypto types on the ledger. Sparrow also allows you to connect you own node to have privacy on your transactions.

So connecting the Nano to Sparrow does not break its connection with Ledger Live....from what I see? So one can use more than one wallet application to connect with a single hardware wallet?
@RhettReisman4 ай бұрын
Correct! You can use as many wallet applications you want with the same hardware wallet. They are all just views into the xPub of the wallet - kind of like a window into what's happening on device

I send more than 20 times bitcoin in my ledger cold wallet when i was buying it. If i want to send BTC now to it there will be massive fees. Is it a good idea to consolidate, i am considering buying a new cold wallet altogether

You should consolidate when fees go down

Everything works fine for me up until 3:43. For some reason nothing is populating into Sparrow for me despite the ledger having been used many times. I see no utxos or and txs at all.
@RhettReismanАй бұрын
Here are some things to check: Double-check the Derivation Path: Make sure that the derivation path you’ve set in Sparrow exactly matches the one used by your Ledger. Sometimes even a small difference can cause issues. Rescan the Blockchain: Try initiating a full rescan of the blockchain. This can sometimes help in detecting all transactions associated with your wallet. Verify Address Types: Confirm that the addresses you’re expecting to see transactions for are of the correct type (e.g., SegWit or Legacy) and match the derivation path you’re using.

When I import the Ledger wallet on to Sparrow it doesn't load the balance at all? It says Ledger Nano S wallet but there is no bitcoin in it? I have the bitocin app open on my Ledger and I closed Ledger Live, still nothing? Any idea why this is happening? Thanks Also on tutorial on KZbin showed importing the Ledger wallet vs you showed opening a new wallet as your Ledger wallet, is there any difference?
@RhettReisman5 ай бұрын
I'm not sure what the other tutorial is doing. You should be able to initialize a new Sparrow wallet file like I did in this video and load in your ledger. It should be okay to have ledger live open like I had in the video as long as you make sure your firmware and Sparrow wallet versions are up to date. Feel free to DM me screenshots on Twitter (blur out any sensitive information) and I can try to help you debug.
@mixalaki53745 ай бұрын
When importing the wallet to Sparrow you can change the address type before pressing "Import Keystone" press the dropdown button and try selecting another address type. "Nested Segwit" worked for me.

Another question, is Sparrow less secure because it is always online? It seems like electrum + tails is safer
@RhettReisman22 күн бұрын
I've never used electrum + tails (not sure what tails is - tailscale?). Is Sparrow always online, that's not my understanding. Even if it was always online I'm not sure how that would affect your security.
@matheuso1014 күн бұрын
@@RhettReismantails is a linux distribution that uses ram to run the system and is aminesic, after turning it off it erases all data and it has a linked electrum wallet. I studied a little about sparrow for use with the ledger nano s, I just didn't see information about the safety of the device as it is no longer updated/manufactured. Do you know if it's a good idea to use?
@matheuso1023 күн бұрын
I have a nano s ledger that is no longer supported, is it advisable to use it in a new account to sign transactions on sparrow or electrum? Or would it be better to buy a new wallet? I haven't seen any video on what to do with the wallet since it is no longer supported.
@RhettReisman18 күн бұрын
Ledger nano s should still be supported, not sure if there are specific altcoins that don’t support for some reason but you can still use the ledger nano s to hold bitcoin and other major tokens. More info: support.ledger.com/article/5615862066717-zd

@gonzo14835 ай бұрын
Thanks for that Rhett! I tried importing my Ledger to Sparrow running on "pruned" Bitcoin Core node, however the transactions on my ledger pre-dated the part of the blockchain kept on my pruned node. I think it's for that reason I wasn't able to import using the Bitcoin Core setting. I tried importing on a public node and was able to import all Native Segwit accounts. I think I may need to create a separate Sparrow wallet to import Taproot accounts. Do you plan to keep using Ledger? There is apparently a firmware update that gives them theoretical access to user's seed phrases. It's supposedly to enable their new seed recovery service that users can opt into. Thanks!
@RhettReisman3 ай бұрын
I'm going to keep using ledger - I have it in a multisig which IMO insulates me from any hardware / firmware risk from any single hardware wallet. Here's a video I made about how I think about that firmware update: kzbin.info/www/bejne/g2nCfZdrnbeliNEsi=TQaD98A1ls1WHJPk
