@ericnesbitt3340 a common misconception is that UV isn't as powerful through clouds, but 90% of UV radiation still makes it to surface through overcast skies if you've ever gone to do some kind of outdoor activity on an overcast day and found you still got light sunburn, this is why. sure, its not AS strong as a clear sky, but it's an insignificant drop all things considered

So, I'm just going to recommend to NOT push from the inside at all. I used this on two chips on two different cars. I followed the packaging instructions and recommendations from this and other videos about giving a gently push from inside to help work any air bubbles out and to help the resin to flow inside. I gave barely any pressure (even less on the second windshield) and I ended up with 7-9" cracks on both instead of just a little chip. Now, where the chip was, it looks pretty damn good. Resin filled that in nicely - I just have long cracks now! Do yourself a favor and don't press from the inside!!!!

Also, the sooner you fix the chip/crack, the better the result, i applied it to mine and it improved 70%, but i waited about 2-3 weeks after the damage (damage happened during a coast-to-coast move and it rained, and accumulated dirt and grime, so the cracks, while reduced are still visible as i assume absorbed moisture/sediment particles and the resin can't completely go in there, was still a worthy temporary improvement while i replace the whole windshield, also structurally the cracks won't get bigger because they are filled. So if you suffer damage, fix it asap.

I used this product and followed the video. Really poor results. It was a bullseye, still is a bullseye. I’m pretty mechanical and thought I had gotten the target directly in the bullseye of the tube. Seems the tool could not push the resin into the opening. Can this be redone after cured?
@FixItDepot Жыл бұрын
I would try it again, but depending what type of problem it is, i would do the following: If it is a bullseye with a crack, I would take a thumbtack and reopen a passage way to the crack. Clean it out good and retry again. Would also try to do it inside garage where minimum UV is hitting it so it doesn't cure early. If just a bullseye and no crack. I would use the clear strip in the kit and apply resin with a strip immediately over it. If you have to buy another kit, the Permatex system puts a lot more pressure on the crack and might be a better solution. I have used both and have gotten about the same results overall from both kits. Good luck with it.
@Shoot4Nothing5 ай бұрын
I see the pro kits actually drill a small hole in the crack which will apparently allow the resin to go into the crack. Maybe the resin couldn't get in with your particular crack. Did you use heat when you did your repair? He doesn't use it in this video, but he did say the heat will help thin the resin and get in the crack better. A commenter on another video said he used a match/lighter and placed the flame about 1 inch under the crack from inside the vehicle for 3 seconds, took it off for 1 second and did that three times (3 on, 1 off, 3 on, 1 off 3 on then stop). I used that method and I got good results, although I didn't do it any other way so maybe it would have come out with or without heat.

It worked great for me, but how do you polish the surface of the hardened resin after you’re done to make it clear like the windshield?
@FixItDepot Жыл бұрын
It should have finished clear enough where you don't have to polish it. When scraping with the razor blade perpendicular to the glass I could see some of the scraped off pieces having a foggy color but the rest of it remaining on the windshield was clear as you would expect. Did you "cut" it off or scraped it?
@JonathanDavid374 Жыл бұрын
@@FixItDepot It filled the chip wonderfully, and is invisible, except for where I scraped the small surface with the razor perpendicularly. This is my first time doing a windshield repair. There must be a way to polish the small circle of resin on the surface.
@russellbrooker2122 Жыл бұрын
multiple ways, 1. you could try glass cleaner prep the surface then use 0000 steel wool designed for glass. personally if I a polishing due to glass filler i use my second option, which is 2. use a cork, like one found in a wine bottle the cork is a great polisher material on the glass.

Any suggestions on how to do this with a nearly vertical RV windshield that also has a short crack?
@FixItDepot3 ай бұрын
I would not use this kit because it depends on gravity to allow the resin to enter the crack. I don’t think it will work well in your situation. Instead, I would get the Permatex repair kit. what if the crack is inside? is it the same procedure?
@FixItDepot10 ай бұрын
I am not sure. Windshields are made with laminated glass which means there are layers of plastic between the glass. So for this to work it has to be cracked on top, and the plastic laminating sheet has to be punctured, and that allows the resin to flow to the lower crack. If your glass is just cracked on the bottom, then it won’t work. This is a rare case since windshields get broken from objects hitting the outside glass.
