I find the psychology of clothing fascinating. Half way through the first lockdown I was taking my daily walk, feeling fed up with things, when I saw 2 women walking towards me. One of them was blond and wearing a cute light pink rain coat and looked fabulous in it. I went home, searched online and bought a bright red raincoat that I felt fantastic in.

Color is SO important! I don't wear makeup, so I'm careful about the colors I wear in my clothing...they are my "makeup," and can flatter my skin tone or not. Lately I have been wanting to wear yellow, but since I'm so fair with a cool skin tone, I need a shade that is very pale; almost non existent...just a "wash" of yellow, if that makes sense. And the blossoms on your desk are absolutely lovely! Thank you for all the great advice, Maria!

I'm a definite cool skin tone, being blonde, blue eyed and skin as white as snow. Interesting about the red, as I really don't like red for anything, not just clothing. I have one deeper red coat but nothing else. Likewise with pink, I don't own one single pink item of clothing and steer well clear of it. I lean towards very neutral tones, beige, cream, stone etc. Anything bright makes me very self conscious, that I am standing out too much.

This is why I feel it’s wrong to have generic palettes because you wouldn’t wear a lot of it 😀 and of course you don’t have to wear anything that you aren’t comfortable in. Maybe a slightly washed looking light red would work and would look lovely with your neutrals too

Hi Maria, really enjoyed this video, as it gives a different perspective on what colours to choose and wear. Personally I mostly wear very monochromatic outfits, mostly black and grey, sometimes navy. After watching the video I'm inspired to bring in my eye colour which is green and also a power colour of pinky red. Thanks very much again for all your effort in putting these videos together x x

Forty years ago I had a pro color analysis that classified me as a Summer (that system didn’t yet have the subtypes). Mostly this has been very useful, except that I didn’t feel good in the grays and purples, they made me look drab, so I dropped them from my working palette. I also found purples really hard to style, they never seemed to go with anything else. I think I’m closer to a neutral because I also look good in some Soft Autumn colors, like khaki. It’s confusing, though, because my skin has become more cool-toned (pink/rose) than yellow as I age. This surprises me because my Mom’s turned more yellowish as she aged.

So interesting Maria. Like you I was /am Autumn and loosely adhered to it but now having reached 70 and allowed my hair to go back to its natural grey I have shaken up and colours and gone for lighter shades of my original choices when i can find them. It's all in a lifetime. I love your chanel and im so glad you are back and looking so beautiful by the way.

Hello from Ohio!! 🙋 I'm so glad you're back. I love your channel. Thank you for this video. I completely changed some of my colors in my winter capsule wardrobe this past winter. I'm very fair skinned with pinky undertones. I've always stayed away from red. However, something in me changed and I bought some red items like a long sleeve top and cardigan. I'm 51 and I feel like everything is changing in me. But that's not the point of my comment/question. I watch some fashion influencers here in the US and I honestly can't find any that are as good as you. I've been hearing (from them) that there are things no longer in style so we shouldn't wear them. For instance, I know capri's are a huge no no because they cut off at the thickest part of our calf. So ALL of these channels go on and on about cropped pants in summer instead. I hate them. I really do. I have cropped pants I bought last summer and someone took a pic of me. I thought I looked good. Nope. I looked shorter and fatter. The pants were above my ankle and wider legged. I don't like a skinny leg crop. I have regular dress pants but I know they might be aging me because they aren't "in style" but I just don't like the cropped pants. Back in the day we called them "floods" 😂 I see them on all these influencers but I don't like them on me. What should I do? Because there's also the issue of hot weather and hot flashes! I don't want to wear full length pants in summer but everyone is saying do not wear capri's which is what I've always worn. I don't like shorts. I have too many spider veins and my legs are ghostly white. I don't go in the sun. And I do not like self tanners so shorts are out. I don't mind skirts but I'm clueless on what would look good on me. I'm an apple shape but not obviously so. I'm also an inverted triangle so my shoulders are wide and I have a larger chest. ANY advice would be appreciated. Also, these other fashion channels for over 50 women say not to wear cardigans anymore. Especially waterfall. I love my cardigans! And certain decorative scarves are out too. I'm tired of all these rules. I want to look current but I also want to wear what I like.
@Mariafsadler Жыл бұрын
Ok here’s my thoughts. Fashion is incredibly open now and by that I mean there are trends but there are so many different looks that might not be trends but it doesn’t mean you can’t wear them. Waterfall cardigans for example suit me, I like them and I don’t care if they are in or out because I know they look good on me so I wear them. If capri style pants suit you and eider ones don’t give you confidence that’s a no brainer to me go with the capris - also Audrey Hepburn style never dated and she wore them 👍 so my point is to me confidence in what you are wearing comes first not what’s in or out. Wear what you love and what makes you happy and confident - create your own look 😘

I just got the same Jigsaw silk top you’re wearing, Maria. It works great with several of my skirts that I didn’t have anything else to wear with, a very useful wardrobe addition. (Solid white or cream tops look a little boring with the skirts: a teal green and a rather yellowish olive).

Hi Maria. I want to reinforce the idea that your work definitely isn't "fluffy". I was in a workshop with the chronic pain clinic (NHS) last week, about using the senses to cope with pain, and colour therapy was given an overview on the handout. We also learnt a bit about using nature images and sounds to help us. The doctors involved obviously think these techniques are worth mentioning. So what we wear could be making more difference than we realise. Never underestimate what you're doing.

@@Mariafsadler I don't have my head together enough to get into detail, but basically there is increasing evidence that positive sensory input can help to ease chronic pain, albeit temporarily in most cases. Conversely, negative input can trigger pain. So actually, the feel of fabrics etc could be beneficial or detrimental as well. It all matters.
