Ps i liked the addition of the nice Christian music! And I love the reminder to be kind to someone God puts in our path ..I recalled that message once when a guy( aparently) living out of his car was told he couldn't use the bathroom at a dollar plus store.. I bought him a couple of taco 🌮 truck..he appreciated it .and he went in the gas station when I bought gas.. pray every day 🙏. Our country is in trouble.

It's been a while since I've watched one of your videos. Sorry. But the absence made the "reunion" just that much better. I REALLY enjoyed this one. It is always a delight to hear someone be honest that is IS hard work, and will likely take longer than you think, but yet, you make it pleasurable, really DO IT, and thus, give us all hope that we, also can accomplish it. Thanks ever so much for your efforts in making these videos for us. And, as always, keep breathin'. David Clifton Hill, MO

As a former 11B (infantryman) I’ve dug a lot of holes with e-tools. You definitely will want to have some good work gloves in your bag unless your hands are used to manual labor. This is important in a survival situation because open wounds (blisters) on hands etc are a great vector for infection.

Hi Christa I am new to your channel, and I have enjoyed a few of your videos over the past wk. One thing I have not seen in any preper video so far is the importance of prayer. In times of stress it is always good to remain calm, and I find prayer helps me to remain so. This might not be the first thing on everyone's list but as the saying goes, there is no atheist in a foxhole. I have to say I did enjoy your coffee video a lot.

Good one! It can be tough digging in red clay soils. Its actually good that its been wet in that area. If it were bone dry that soil can be like concrete. Sandy soils are much easier ( that's where the 10 min thing comes from :-). If possible start the fire at near dusk or before fully light in the morning and the normal smoke experienced at start-up will be better concealed. Good job and handy technique to know. Jeff's got a good Nashville voice...thumbs up! Oh yeah, that's a NICE hat!! Blessings!

The first fold out shovel is called an entrenching tool. I have one I got from the Army surplus store. I also have in my bug out bag/survival bag a Smith and Wesson CH629 Bullseye Hatchet/Knife combo. It is for field dressing out a deer or game. The hatchet is almost 11 inches long and the knife is almost 10 inches. They are super sharp. They come with a double side nylon sheath that has a loop fir your belt. I have used the hatchet cutting small limbs for a fire.

Thank you Prepsteaders, for this very useful method; one may never know just when it may be needed... There was once a holiday time when having special permission to camp at the corner of farmer's field, I found the need for a fire to cook some food for my son, but did not dare ask, so by a hedge and out of view I made a very discreet fire hole only half a foot squared, kept the turf/sod and soil carefully to one side, then refilled the hole and put the turf back in place once finished; it worked a treat and never left a single mark!

I have the E-tool and the small folding trowel, I would recommend to all to search for a titanium shovel. Most are from Russia and will take time to ship but they are worth the wait. They are more efficient like the E-tool but at the weight of a trowel. So if you're talking about moving about with a pack its worth it. The E-tool is great for the car, not so much for your back! Thank you for all you do! ✝️❤

I just dig a two foot trench (on a slope) and lay a rock over the center of the trench, leaving a two inch space below the rock. Then I place dirt on the rock up to the original ground level and put my fire in the lower hole. Bingo, instant Dakota fire hole/rocket stove combo. Much, much easier than digging a tunnel from one hole to another and the added uphill draft makes a cleaner burn. I could come over and demonstrate if you like.

It would be good to tell people how long it took you to dig the hole and get the fire going completely. In times of need, people will be concerned about the end of daylight. Some people will never have done any of the suggestions you are teaching until it is actually needed. Maybe you should suggest they do a practice run in advance just like we do for "family fire evacuation preparation plans." It was actually good to see a rainy day set up and know it was still reasonable.

Caution notation if you make the fire to big - you may draw in too much oxygen and cause an explosion as a lean out mixture - Part of our military training the warning of using a trench or deep pit fire - not that I have every tried it mind you. Has that same pulling effect like a jet or rocket stove effect.

Thank you for this teaching, Prepsteader woman 🙏 I'm returning to your channel to learn about this fire making. It's so practical to know how to make a fire in this way, and to keep warm, boil water and enjoy a warm drink. My idea of snugness! I always feel safe in nature, alone, and I'd be able to enjoy a whole night in a forest, or an open field, watching the stars and listen to animal sounds. With such a fire near me. I so appreciate the wisdom of ancestors who had no other choice than to make a fire to keep warm, cook and sit around it with good company. I'm glad to see that you're joyful and beautiful, still after a couple of years no see 😉Merry Xmas!🎄🍀

Good job young lady! You might want to do one on one of those folding rocket stoves as well. They are easily carried, work off the same principle of air flow, and deliver a high thermal efficiency as well. FWIW, your channel really hits a sweet spot in the prepping scenario of providing simple solutions that cover that grey area between those that may bug in and those that may bug out. A properly stocked bug in location coupled with some basic skills should you have to bug out. Be bold in the expression of your faith as well, give God the maximum opportunity to bless your work, just sayin'...

Love this! I made a Dakota Fire hole once for fun, in my yard, and it worked beautifully. One thought - myabe someone else has already shared it -- if the ground is hard/may have rocks, or your digging tool is flimsier than wished., first soften the ground by digging it up with your pick or stick, then do the actual digging with your shovel/scoop.

i understand the native americans who developed this, used to put the draft hole in the direction of the prevailing wind (usually north), so it would get the best draft to help feed the fire.
